Animal Crackers - UNCUT!
For the first time since 1930 we get to see a "pre Hays Code" Animal Crackers. (For those who don't know, the Hays Code was a law that came in that severely restricted what films could show. The reason you always saw a husband and wife in separate beds was because of the Hays Code. The Code stayed in power for decades, and things only finally began relaxing in the late 1960s and early 70s. That's why there's such a difference between modern and old movies. However, pre-1930, there was no Code, and so films were actually more sophisticated and adult prior to then. Animal Crackers was made "pre Code" and then edited afterwards -- this is the first time since that law passed that we're seeing the film as originally intended!)This boxset was made using the best available surviving elements and, as you can imagine for films so old, that doesn't mean you're going to see huge improvements over your DVD versions. (Ironically it's the earliest two films, based on their original broadway musicals, that see the most benefit.) But this is still the best they're ever going to look.

Marx Brothers 5 film set
This set is the same version as the Universal UK and US set that have been previously released but... This release has a better and clearer version of Horse Feathers than the UK set and the other 4 films are the same quality as the UK set. This is a great cheaper version of the US.

Errr....
Not much info on here is there? I know what's in the DVD set but it might be nice to let others know... it's easier than having them Google huh? Several sellers of this item and not one has the good sense to describe what they're trying to sell. Good work!!

Overrated nonsense
How anyone can find this funny is beyond me. A few amusing one liners and nice frocks (on the girls) do not compensate for the painful harp and piano playing and ridiculous annoying, reptitive antics of the main characters. Sound and picture quality good.

A very mixed bag
This set ultimately disappoints as there simply hasn't been proper care taken with the 'restorations'. Indeed, I take a lot of convincing all five movies have infact been restored. The set opens with a very clean looking and sounding copy of 'The Cocoanuts', no complaints, this has been well restored. The second movie 'Animal Crackers' is more complete than I've seen before, the print has been restored and is pretty free of scratches jumps and flickers. Unfortunately, 'Monkey Business' from the opening sequence shows scratches that could have been removed, worse they are no better than my UK DVD released by Universal. What restoration? It's a huge shame that a better source copy of 'Horse Feathers' wasn't found. The same jumps and hacked to death mess that appears on my UK DVD release from Universal appear. It's a bit less scratched than the DVD. My biggest disappointment is 'Duck Soup' which not only looks little better than the UK DVD but has a distorted soundtrack! The terrible distortion on the 'pop goes the weasel' song and to a lesser degree throughout the film isn't on the DVD for example. Come on Universal, get it right! This is a very poor value package. The copies of 'The Cocoanuts' and 'Animal Crackers' are well worth having. The rest are just a disappointment.
