It's Remo folks.
I really have no idea what to say about this. It's very typical Remo, so it's great. I have a handmade drum that has seen better days and to save it, I am no longer taking it out of the house. I replaced it with a Remo because I know that it's a great drum for hauling around and can take being caught out in the elements. It sounds great, it looks great, it's Remo

More than I expected, in the best way!
I already had two wood with goat skin head rope tuned Djembe's from Meinl when I ordered this drum. So here's my quick review. First there really aren't any "pro's or con's" between Remo and more traditional Djembe's in terms of sound or playability. There are clear differences in the scope of sounds the types produce though. Personally I think that's a good thing. I mean, if a drum was a drum was a drum, then why would there be different brands and styles? I like having access to different sound scapes to play with. This Remo has extremely crisp tones and rumbling bass. Than again, my Meinl's can produce their own cracks and rumbles as well. The universally agreed "pro" for Remo is it's "all weather" characteristic. Meaning the synthetic head can handle changing environments extremely well, without worry to the tune needing adjustment because it's chilly, or hot and humid. As for it's key tuning system, I wouldn't want another tuning system on a synthetic head. The simplest diffence in sound scape between a Remo and a traditional style djembe I can give is this: A Remo is almost begging to played in a band, while a traditional style like the Meinl's I have feel more at home in an acoustic setting. Both share a home in drum circles, and play well with each other. So in the end, have both. Grab a Remo, and a traditional style Djembe as well. You won't be disappointed, as both have their own sound scapes and fit into different roles. Not sure which to get first? Flip a coin!

Very Happy
Just what I expected in terms of sound from a Remo product. Great lows and highs. While there may be others out there that sound better, I don't think there's another djembe on the market that's as durable as this. Molded fiberglass/plastic shell resists all kinds of dents and dings, and the head is weather-resistant. Rubber foot on the bottom also nice. Key tuned means you won't be spending hours tying and tightening ropes like more authentic djembes. 14" size is big enough to get good, deep bass but still be very portable. Very satisfied!

Excellent, Modernized take on a Djembe
I am NOT a Djembe expert. My friends are, though. One has not only an extensive collection, but an expansive knowledge of west African drums, and has considerable training with Ghanaian masters. We all agree; this is not an authentic drum. The synthetic head, key-tuned style, coloring, and very present bass tones are not authentic. That being said, it sounds great and plays very well. Even a neophyte like me makes it sound ok. If you are looking for the highest quality product but without the responsibility of a natural head and fragility of an authentic shell, this is the best choice. The price is fair for what you get.

Good djembe. Terrible shipping protection.
Shipped from Amazon with no protection whatsoever. There was no bubble wrap or any stuffing in the shipping box. Terrible way to ship a heavy instrument. The Remo djembe is very nice though. Deep bass, crisp highs, and easy to tune. The black color looks great. Thankfully, it's also very durable. Low rating only applies to their shipping of the product.

grate sound
I love this drum I have hade it for about 4 years now and it still sounds as good as the day I bout it. I got the jet black and I love the look. my one problem is wen I wasn't looking my roommate took a pair of drum sticks to it and left marks in the head. if you look at it in the right light you can see the marks he left in it but that have nothing to do with the maker I would definably recommend this Djembay

I'd say this is probably the best djembe you could have if you are gigging a bunch. Easy to carry, easy to tune and not so expensive that you'd freak if something happens to it.
