Acrylic Stayed Wet For Weeks
The Masterson Sta-Wet Premier Palette does precisely what it says-my acrylic paint certainly has not dried out one bit despite a couple weeks of neglect. The box is made of white plastic and is very roomy. The bottom is not totally flat though-a number of crisscrossing plastic lines make it uncomfortable to hold. Coupled with the size of the box, it makes for a poor palette, so expect to keep this grounded unless you opt for a smaller size. The lid is a flexible red plastic and snaps down when aligned correctly. It has numerous circular support columns that will touch paint, so ensure that you're always putting the lid on the same way you did before, or else you will contaminate your colors. The palette itself stays wet due to a durable sponge and some special paper. You soak the sponge and paper to start, and then add water periodically to the sponge as needed. Since the box is relatively air tight with the lid closed properly, the sponge does not need to be as thoroughly soaked when stored since less evaporation will occur (I could never get it to be fully "airtight" as claimed, so I was susceptible to some water loss). Indeed, the instructions directly warn you against over saturating when not in use as mold may develop. I have had the product for a few weeks now and have only ever had to add water once. I use the palette exclusively for acrylic paint. Due to the nature of the Sta-Wet system and because acrylic is water-based, my paint does thin out a little bit. It stays mostly in the area I mix it in, but be sure to allow for some spreading when mixing your paints. The box comes with five sheets of paper that sit atop the sponge, and they can be easily cut when dry. The instructions claim that the paper can withstand mixing from even metal tools, and I can attest that it holds it very well to plastic ones. Overall, I'm very happy with it. The price is already low, but I believe the box has already saved me a good bit in non-wasted paint. It certainly has saved me a lot of frustration from having to remix colors, and as an untrained hobbyist painter, that's invaluable.

Haven't used it just yet..........
I haven't been able to use it just yet. Although from what I have tinkered around with the seal is great and large enough for lots of different color paints. Lots of mixing of colors room so I'm sure 5 stars would be a good rating! So far I'm sure I will like it a lot but I'll know more after using it for a week or so. Right now I would recommend it for anyone to purchase as it not only should keep the paints moist which also means not having to waste so much paint. Update: Here it is a few days after I wrote the first part of the review. I really like it a whole lot as it does keep the paint moist and so far haven't even had to spray down the corners for drying out. Definitely would recommend this product if you are getting tired of wasting paint. This Started-Wet palette is wonderful.

Good idea, works, lid is not easy to use or well designed.
This works really well amd it's nice to not waste paint. The lid design could so easily be so much better though.

The large size of this palette is more hassle than it's worth.
This Sta-Wet palette contains the same excellent paper and sponge as Masterson's other wet palettes, but it doesn't scale well to a palette this size. If you're looking for an excellent wet palette, and need one with this much area, consider getting two of Masterson's smaller palettes instead. The problem with a palette this large is that it's very hard to keep the moisture levels right, for two reasons: First, it's harder to get a seal around the edges of the palette when closing it up at the end of work. The rubbery top for this palette is different than Masterson's smaller palettes, which have hard-plastic tops that snap easier into place. This rubbery lid takes a lot more attention to get a good seal with. If you don't pay very close attention every time you seal it and take extra time with it, you may find your paints dried out the next time you open it. Second, the larger surface area evaporates water faster. Anyone who uses a wet palette knows you have to re-moisten it every so often while using it. But with a palette this large, the water evaporates faster, forcing more frequent attention. It's easy to mess up during this constant re-waterings, resulting in paint that's too dry or too dilute. I've had a much better time with my smaller Masterson palette. The lid snaps on as easy as can be, and I have an easier time keeping the moisture levels constant, with less attention. If I really need as much surface area as this larger palette in the future, I'll just get a second smaller palette.

Works better than expected
This product is amazing. I closed it with my acrylic paint and waited 48 hours and the paint was moist and fresh. This is going to save a lot of waist and money.

Gamechanger for painting!
This is a game changer for my acrylic painting. Keeps paint moist and usable for days. Special paper is reusable and can be used over for many paintings. I marked the corner on the tray and lid before usingso I can always get it back on properly and airtight. If you close it up on a hard surface and follow the instructions I haven't had any issues.

Wow--I wish I had known about this much sooner! My acrylic paints no longer dry on the pallet as I paint. I can keep a batch of skin tone for instance per days. Simply use. Very effective. I highly recommend it.
