Loved this book.
Read this in my childhood and now I'm happy to have it to read whenever I'd like. :) This book might be a bit scary for some but I enjoyed it in my youth. Perhaps read it together with your little ones during October?

Finally got my son to read!
I bought this because it was required summer reading for my rising 8th grader. Little did I know he would plow through it. He hates to read, but finished the story in record time. What boy doesn't love dinosaurs?

Raptor (The Zone Unknown)
It was not all that believable to me. I really did like the main characters and especially the baby dino that hatched. This idea of a huge, mutant raptor was just a little too far fetched. Story went on and on and the longer it went, the less interested I became. Sorry, I really wanted to like the book.

RAPTOR HAS GOOD MEAT!
I thought this was one of the best books I have ever read, however, I'm not sure if I will ever read another Paul Zindel book again. The plot did not have enough meaning but was compelling at most times. I think that the book should go by slower than it did, but Raptor really did have good meat to it and I recommend it to everyone.

Perhaps the best of Zindel's adventure/horror novels
Raptor is one of those books that you can read over and over again. It has a great combination of horror, combat and humor to keep you hooked from the very first chapter. The novel starts out with Professor Norak, an expert in paleontology exploring a seemingly deserted mountain in Utah when he stumbles across the nest of a very angry mother Utahraptor (Yes, the biggest raptors; perhaps more deadly than even the T. Rex) As he flees the vicious dinosaur, he unknowingly takes one of her eggs....and so the story begins. Perhaps one of Zindel's finest. Give it a read!
