The Proximity Principle: The Proven Strategy That Will Lead to a Career You Love

Quick read -- similar to other self-help career books
I was sitting in a restaurant and overheard the author promoting his book on TV. I thought the concept to be interesting.... and while I have a long list of books and reviews to complete... I skipped ahead to read Ken's book. Most of the self-help books have four concepts weaved through chapters of the author's personal experiences and those of friends, family, clients, and others; this book is no exception. The four concepts that are covered generally focus on goals; prepare based on the goals; execute to the goals; follow up and then repeat the cycle until the goal is achieved. While the author seems to have a genuine desire to help readers -- there is not much new here unless you are interested in how he personally leveraged a change in career and proposes that others can follow in his footsteps. The good news is that it is a quick read... maybe I will find more when I go back through the Kindle book version that I also purchased with the Audible version which the author personally narrates.

Skip the purchase
I regret buying this book. Upon Dave Ramsey's suggestion, I pre-ordered it shortly before release. I can't say I disagree with the author's points (which is why I gave it 2 stars) but I didn't enjoy the book at all. The entire thing could have been summed up much more quickly instead of being spread to fill more pages. I didn't really find his anecdotes charming or entertaining, some didn't even seem relevant to his point. The whole thing just felt repetitious and filled with common sense ideas, nothing revolutionary. Not a bad time killer if you have a free copy available, but I'd save your money and skip buying this book.

Potential Life Changer
For nearly 5 years now (literally), I have been actively searching for a new job. I've practically made a second career out of creating resumes, writing cover letters, and using all those "number-one-job-sites" to contact people I didn't know, in places I didn't know; giving up on any thoughts of a dream job or just a new job in the process.I pre-ordered this book on a Sunday, it shipped Monday, and I received and completed it that Tuesday. I literally could not put it down. It hit me right where I was in my career-hunting "process," and gave me a glimpse of hope for the future with practical steps and things to do to press on.If you're in a similar spot, I not only encourage you to buy and read this book, I suggest you check out Ken's website (kencoleman.com) for more resources on how to get into a job you love.

A waste of time
I already knew most of everything he was saying plus the stories in there are not very helpful. I was expecting to hear more advice on how to improve on interviews, jobs etc. I would have never bought this book. I think this book can work for a teenager or someone out of college, not someone who has experience with their careers and advanced in the job market.

If you already know what you want to do, this may help... maybe.
Let me save you some time and some money and sum up the book's main point: in order to end up doing what you want to be doing, you have to put yourself in proximity to those who are already doing the type of work you want to do. That's it. He could've written a pamphlet about it, or better yet, a quick blog post. The font is obnoxiously large. The book reads like a high school essay from a student who has a word count and is trying to meet it. However, the biggest flaw is that this book will be no help if you don't already know what it is that you want to. This book in no way, shape, or form helps you figure out what that dream job is. I picked it up hoping that it will help me figure out what job will fit my talents, passions, and interests. It did not. This book is a massive waste of time and money. There are many other great career books out there that will do you much more good.

His ideas work!
Fantastic book. I already started putting into practice before finishing the book and Coleman’s suggestions do work if were willing to put in the work. Highly recommended.I teach personal and professional development to folks in prison and I recently bought 3 copies for one of my classes so they could learn to put this into practice once they get out. I wish I could get one into every prison.

Easy to read, and lots of useful suggestions.
This book is filled with tons of good suggestions on how to get networked and plan your career jump. I was worried that this would do a lot of repeating of the baby steps and stuff (sometimes when you have folks under the same umbrella of a bigger company like Dave Ramsay, you hear the same message a bunch). This book stands on its own and has plenty of good ideas to challenge you and get you towards the career goals you want.

One of the best books I have ever read!!!
I am not a fast reader. I recently went on a business trip, less than 2 hrs flight. On the outbound flight, I finished half the book. On my flight back, less than 2 hrs again, I finished the book. Ken has relatable stories that were relevant to me and I am sure will be to others. I found Ken's book incredibly useful, even though I have been working in the corporate world for over 30 yrs. Thank you Ken Coleman for writing this wonderful book!!

Really enjoyed this book
There are many nuggets of wisdom in this book. I like that the author has a Christian background and this comes through some of the chapters. I would recommend it.
