Good overview but you can also us it for hands-on experience
'Google Drive & Docs in 30 Minutes' was perfect for me as I am researching IT solutions for a small non-profit organization. As my background is in Microsoft products, I was not being totally open minded about the Google solution. Then I was talking with my son who is a pilot and Director of Safety for a freight company with 30-40 employees. They are running a lot of their company on Google Drive and couldnβt be happier with it. The great thing about this book is that now I can go back through and spend several hours working through all of the examples and getting a hands-on experience. All of the Google products are free so I can do that at no cost. Also, the author includes his email address and says to feel free to email him with questions about Google Drive or the guide. I emailed him with a question and got a very timely and thorough answer from him.

Good introduction
I used this book to get into Drive and Docs. The initial hurdle I had to overcome was getting away from Word's organization of folders and sub-folders and understanding that Docs is the word processor for Drive. I know this is elementary, but years of using Word is not that easy to get around. Obviously the title of the book is inaccurate, and no subject like Drive can be discussed in thirty minutes. The book is helpful.

Accurate in MANY ways
My laptop crashed! As a busy writer, I needed something to help manage my written words and social media communications. Emails alone consume a lot of time, and searching the internet aids in some research. A purchase of a Google Chromebook was a wise investment to meet my immediate needs, but I would have to learn the new Chrome OS.Enter Ian Lamont. His claims to get readers up-to-speed with new technical jargon holds true. Many of the tips now seem intuitive, but I needed a launchpad from which to spring, and his book met my demands. This author also provide several smaller shortcuts and advice about using the Docs, making my writing easier while learning the new OS. To other readers/potential buyers: do not be dismayed about learning the Chrome OS or using shared documents with the (free!) software, because Lamont provides busy writers and professionals that with which the need to immediately learn over a lunch break. This book is highly recommended, and the author also provides teasers for other books in his "...in 30 Minutes" series.

An excellent book worth the price and effort.
This is one of the best practical guides that makes the reader feel familiar and comfortable in using Google Drive and Docs. The characteristic features of this book are clarity and simplicity.Clearly the aim of Mr.Lamont is to make computer users with internet connection understand and work with the Drive &Docs in as short a time as possible and he achieved this admirably. Many are already familiar with the Drive but not with the Docs. This book shows that Docs can effectively replace .Ms.Word in time and it is easy to work in and those already familiar with the Drive and are using it can learn more about its potentialities.Google and the computer users who are guided by such books should be grateful to Mr.Lamont for bringing about a second edition of this book in time.I am sure that this book will definitely be very popular before long and will have wide circulation.

I really debated between two and three stars. Everything in the first chapter I ether knew or had done already. What I really wanted was how to import Word documents and spreadsheets from another computer into the Google Drive and docs and sheets. I searched the internet on this and so far have not found anything. I even had a hard time finding the extensions for Google docs and sheets. Maybe I was just looking too hard but finally found one for sheets. I notice there were indications for things like cheat sheets at an additional cost thru Amazon or you could create a PDF and pay on site. I was afraid to look up other suggestions for more information since it would probably be an additional cost. It is too bad this needed manual could note be more comprehensive.

Had a collaborative folder set up before I finished reading the book
This took me a lot longer than 30 minutes to read, because a kept practicing. But by the time I had finished the book I already had a shared folder that had been populated and edited by a collaborator miles away. This gets us out of the rut of having to email things to each other. Having always had the Microsoft Suite as a corporate employee, I got used to those apps. But now as a retiree who does not want to pay for Office, I'll see if I can get by with just the Google versions of things to manage my retired life. This book will be kept as a reference.

The book was a good start. My problem was that I clicked one click ordering and it went to my Ohio address instead of my Florida address. I think you have both addresses but I didn't get to choose. It cost me another $8.95 to have it forwarded, So I better not use "One Click." Also I thought I was buying "Google Drive An essential beginner's guide." However it went to Kindle. Can't make notes in the margins.

Read, Set-up, Go!
I just completed a course on Maximizing Microsoft: Beyond the Basics and was introduced to the usefulness of Google Drive there, prompting me to reach for this book. I completed the whole book in one sitting while setting myself up and a couple of other people on Google Drive, immediately putting the collaboration tool into action on a report. I even set up my Chrome browser for offline editing and to default to other features I prefer by simply following the steps in the book. I think people who are already familiar with word processors, spreadsheets and the like, and are quite comfortable with the mobile, digital life will find this book most useful for learning another way to maximize their productivity. Those new to these ideas might need someone around to answer the basic questions.

Excellent overview and way in to using Google Drive and Docs
Working as a consultant in an organisation that had just introduced Google Drive, I needed to get going fast. This book helped me understand how my rapidly acquired bits and pieces of knowledge fit together, and made sense of the whole area. It has also encouraged me to look at wider uses for Drive in my work. Clear and easy to understand, it also answered questions I'd been wondering about. For me, this book is just the right level of detail and terminology. Will look for others in the series.

Book authoring collaboration
A colleague and I had written a technical book that took us 5 years. We communicated by email with attachments that were limited in size. So any images that were two large for email were copied on to CD and posted. Now four years later we are embarking on another technical book with another author who lives and works in the USA and Luxembourg. So this time we are using the "Cloud" to collaborate and we all use Google so "Google Drive" was our choise. So that we are all using the same hyme sheet we needed a procedure to follow and "Google Drive & Docs in 30 Minutes" turned out to be just right for us. Chapters 2 and 6 covers every technique we will need. So I give 5 stars for my review.lMartin Flint

It's a starting point for some
Give some good basic tips and it's a starting point if not used before, some of it is common sense.
