The Essence of Chi-Gung: A Handbook of Basic Forms for Daily Practice

Purely Authentic Treatment of the Subject / Beginner Friendly / Can't Go Wrong
As soon as I was made aware that Daniel Reid had put out a book on Chi-Gung I was all over it and knew I had to get a copy as I was familiar with his brilliant work from a book he authored several years ago called "The Complete Book of Chinese Health & Healing." What a fantastic writer....articulate but even more important is the reader can feel his genuineness and authenticity to the point where you just KNOW this guy truly lives every day what he writes about. In this book he's put together the perfect book on the subject for anybody looking to learn this critically important practice for overall health and longevity because it is concise and to the point and not overdone nor overwhelming and at the same time he is able to explain thoroughly the benefit of every single move (each is numbered throughout the book which makes it even easier to follow).Just an excellent book and a GREAT blessing to my life:)

Excellent
I would be proud to have written such a nice book on Chi-Gung. If you have no teacher yet want to learn Chi-Gung, this is a great place to start. Even if you have done Chi-Gung for a while this is a great overview of a simple, yet profound daily practice. The only thing I can think of which might confuse a beginner is their wondering how many repetitions of each exercise to do. I would say that one need to figure that out for themselves. Start out with a few repetitions and see how you feel. You can always add to what you do. Everyone is in different shape physically and so they need to adapt for themselves. This book is empowering for the student and so they need to take some responsibility for their practice. Trust yourself and start practicing what is in the book.

Basic and direct
I carry this book with me in my briefcase. I refer to it almost daily. I have found that this method allows me to learn almost unconsciously throughout the week. This is a very good basic introduction to Chi-Gung.

Disapointing.
I own almost all of Daniel Reids books, the are generally amazing. Daniel lets himself down with this one however, it doesnt add much to his Chi Kung book Harnesssing the power of the universe. The only added exercises are taken from Bruce Kumar (spinal twists) and Master Wong Kiew Kitt (lifting the sky). I expected more from Mr Reid. Shame.

Whichever way you spell it
... Qi Gong or chi-gung, this is a useful book of exercises. I especially liked the specifically male manipulation of the testes - not something you would necessarily try in a mixed class!
