I use this reel for saltwater surf fishing. The long spool design lies the line very well, so that it is setup for another long distance cast.Feeds the line out very well. This works well for getting past the surf on days where it is necessary. Would I use this on a sport fishing boat to saltwater fish? Yes but if that is your main fishing venue I would not recommend this reel, since it is a bit overkill for that. This reel is designed to cast far and has effortless retrieve.It is large. There is one complaint of owning this reel. I have had issues with the retrieve/bail switching over after a cast. Other pluses outweigh the negatives
