The Bon Appetit Cookbook

1200 recipes, where to begin
Massive is the word for this cookbook. The sections are typical, appetizers, pastas, potatoes, ETC.The cookbook starts with tell you how to stock a well stocked kitchen, from equipment, pots & pans, and tools. Next they tell you how to stock your pantry, refrigerator and Freezer. There is cooking terminology, How to's (pit an avocado, cut winter squash, peel a pineapple, toast nuts and many more), not really sure how they choose the topics but the information is helpful and tips (recipe preparation, ingredients, measuring and cooking). There are a wonderful variety of recipes and anyone is surely able to find something to make from this cookbook. This cookbook is for impressing your eaters. The recipes are easily laid out but do not tell you preparation or cooking time at the being of the recipes, some make take longer to prepare then you realize. Some recipes also give you suggestions of food to accompany the dish you are preparing. Sometimes they will also tell you if you can use something different such as the recipe calls for pork but it may say that you could use chicken instead, I like this, makes it easier to use what you have on hand. This is Bon Appetit so it is not unusual for a recipe to have many ingredients and some recipes may not be as easy for beginning cooks, but the only way to move from being a beginner cook is to step up to more difficult recipes. The recipes are not heavily sorted by cuisines like Asian or Middle Easter although they do sort a few in this way. What I do like is that they sort recipes by ingredient, say you are looking to use coconut there are about 10 recipes listed under coconut. This is great if you have bought an item that you don't usually purchase and you are looking for a recipe to create with that item. When I prepare recipes from this cookbook I am always pleased with myself and happy that my family enjoys the food. I also use this cookbook when I want to impress my guests and hear praises for my cooking.

Great Company
The book was in great condition. I will always buy from Hippo if possible as they stand behind their products every time. A very good company to deal with.

Great magazine . . . great book
I purchased this lovely cookbook for my daughter-in-law. Learning to cook was a challenge for her when she was younger. After learning from Better Crocker classic recipes, her cooking style has gone from 'Blah' to "Bon Appetite!". Bon Appetite was also what I graduated to, long ago, after learning all the basics from Betty Crocker (1950's version). Since subscribing to Bon Appetite Magazine many yeas ago I have become a true gourmet cook - the best in our family, which is saying something! It contains clear directions and a wide variety of culinary delights, enough to please any palette and / or eating style: meat lovers, vegetarians, etc. Since learning to cook with B.C. and B. A. some of my own recipes have been picked up by independent fine restaurants and have become customer favorites. As my mother told me, more than 35 years ago, it all begins with learning the simple basics - then you'll know how to determine a 'good' recipe from a 'bad' one! This and Betty Crocker Classic are all you need!

Marvelous!
For the low price I paid plus a few bucks shipping, I got a steal. Imagine 1200 recipes to choose from. My inspiration started as i watched Food network chef competition shows where chefs were given ingredients and told to make fine cuisine. I wondered what that meant, so I found this book when searching for that concept. Now I have a fun reference i can read to my husband when asking him what new and tasty thing I can make for him. It's a lot of fun. Buy this book if you want to make enough variety to keep the toughest audiences happy.

The Bon Appétit Cookbook... Yes! Yes! Yes!
I have been a subscriber to Bon Appétit since the 1960's and have found their recipes to be reliable, timely, and most are relatively easy to make. Though I still have all my magazines, I find it easier to have a book containing a wide variety of recipes to refer to as needed and this book definitely fits the bill.I first bought the book... "Bon Appetit Fast Easy Fresh", and because I was so impressed by the variety of recipes, I bought "The Bon Appétit Cookbook" and have not been disappointed.Though it would be nice to have more photos, the price of the book is incredible for the number of recipes included. Just tonight I made Sweet Potatoes Topped with Vegetarian Black Bean Chili and have posted the recipe for all to see. It is a winner! This book would make a wonderful gift for anyone who loves to cook!Bon Appétit!

One of my favorite cookbooks, among many
I've used so many recipes out of this book. All measurements seem to be correct (an issue I've had with other large published cookbooks...NYT unfortunately). The only con is there aren't many pictures, so if that's a big deal to you, keep it in mind. I don't mind so much since I usually play around with my recipes anyway.

Huge wealth of information
This is a great cook book used in many restaurants behind the scenes. It has lots of easy recipes and the variety is huge! I liked it so much I bought the green version as well. My husband is delighted with the new variety to our healthy eating efforts.

american food magazine dream
I love American food mags , they are so much more interesting than the british ones who just reprint yet another Victoria sponge or promote another celebrity chef cook book .So I had to get this book , its massive and contains much that I want to eat . Do wish there were more photos as I do find seeing the food so much easier to decide how it should look . However I love the scope and choices this book throws , plus most things are simple , you don't need to use too much equiptment or buy spices you will never use again [ Ottolenghi take note] . I guess this isn't a book to be fashionable just to use .
