Battling Over Birth: Black Women and the Maternal Health Care Crisis
T**Y
Several brief case studies, useful for informing oneself on others' experiences
There is one elephant in the room which is that whenever there is an attempt to resolve issues that uniquely affect Black and Brown women, someone finds it necessary to tie in homosexuality unnecessarily. The organization that put out this book specifically equates Black women's health issues to the concerns of men (who feel like women), etc. That may be a point of consideration for some. This book has useful statistical data on the crisis in women's health as it relates to Black women in California. It also gives detailed accounts of some specific stories shared by women who have been pregnant and gone through the process of pregnancy and birth. However, if you're searching for more medical information about care or general statistics as it relates to Black women around the United States and/or other countries, this book will be inadequate.

Such important work
This book is beautifully written and carefully researched. It addresses the whys and hows of black maternal mortality and morbidity in this country. It also proposes solutions. It is very readable for the non-academic and researched by and for academics. I recommend it to every working with pregnant and birthing people.
