Important Issue Addressed
I found the author's approach to a story refreshing. The heroine isn't without flaws; she isn't rich; she comes from a poor state with many problems and few jobs, but she finds new purpose in becoming part of her old home town and old friends. Most importantly, Ms Wait addresses the problem of sexual predators, a problem most often swept under a rug. For people who have suffered this problem with no advocate, the author has brought to light the lack of adult sympathy and need for protection.

You will LOVE the main character & her hometown !!
Twisted Threads is the first book in Lea Wait's new series, Mainely Needlepoint and you will become a fan after reading it.Angie Curtis, the main character, returns home after receiving a message from her grandmother that they found the body of her mother....her mother went missing when Angie was 9 years old. In Twisted Threads Angie is 27 years old and living in Arizona.....far, far away from Harbor Haven, Maine. However after receiving the call, Angie returns home to finally find out what happened to her mother. Once Angie is home, she finds out that her grandmother has started a needlepointing business, has a handful of neighbors and friends doing needlepoint projects, and a manager that is "missing" and owes the business a lot of money !! Angie tracks down the missing manager and brings him back to Harbor Haven to explain everything to the Mainely Needlepointers. Unfortunately he only has a portion of the money owed and he collapses during the meeting and later dies at the hospital. While Angie is coming to terms with the fact that her mother is indeed dead and not going to ever come home like she hoped, she is also trying to help her grandmother get the business back in shape. Angie decides that she will stay in Harbor Haven for at least 6 months getting everything in order but as a reader I am hoping that she will stay a lot longer......Once you pick up Twisted Threads Wait will have your attention and it will be hard to focus on anything else while the book is open. You will fall completely in love with Angie and her group of needlepointers along with the little town they live in. I for one am completely hooked !!!!

I quite enjoyed this title and I was reminded that I knew ...
I just finished TWISTED THREADS by Lea Wait. This title is the first in a series called A Mainely Needlepoint Mystery.I quite enjoyed this title and I was reminded that I knew of Leah Wait’s previous books. I heard Lea speak at a children’s literature conference quite a while ago in Maine - either at USM or Augusta. She is a talented author of children’s fiction. Being a children’s librarian, I greatly enjoyed her presentation, read all of her (then) published books, purchased the titles for my library and used at least one of them in a reading/library class activity. The books were excellent. I especially liked WINTERING WELL, STOPPING TO HOME, and SEAWARD BORN.I am not familiar with her ‘Antique Print Mystery’ series, but I plan to read the series soon.TWISTED THREADS has an incredible sense of place to it. Living in Maine, I was instantly familiar with the small coastal town she described and its inhabitants. They might as well have been my own neighbors! I liked all the references to embroidering and needlepoint and enjoyed the quotes about needlework beginning each chapter. The mystery was plausible and the characters very detailed. The plot was also very detailed andwell constructed and written.I am looking forward to reading the next installment and would recommend this book.

Welcome to Haven Harbor Maine
I won't recap the story because so many reviewers have summarized it so nicely. I was drawn to this new series by the quaint Maine setting and the needlepoint theme... and I loved the book cover!I thought this was a great start to a new series. This story was written in the first person from Angela's point of view... I love that. It really drew me into the book quickly. I loved the setting in the quaint town of Harbor Haven, Maine. Right off the bat we're introduced to a mystery that happened long ago in this small coastal town. The characters that were introduced in this first book were interesting and offered several red herrings that kept me guessing. The characters were realistic... Angie had to make decisions about her future, solve her mothers murder and reconnect with old friends and her grandmother. I liked the fact that Angela's grandmother Charlotte had a life of her own and was moving forward in her personal life. The cast of needlepointers were quirky and kept the story moving along.I liked the fact that there were two murders to solve... one old and one new. I thought the author did a good job of connecting the two murders. I love to needlepoint so I loved the needlepoint theme. The concept of the needlepoint shop was interesting. I am looking forward to the 2nd book in this series, Threads of Evidence, which will be released in August.
