Velbon QRA-3 Q/R Adapter + Plate

I ordered this to go with my Velbon RUP-4 monopod which has a non-standard 1/4inch receiving screw for heads (rather than 3/8inch).Firstly, the design of the adapter and lever is not the same as in the picture shown here; the lever is a different shape. Also, unlike the reviewer from Nov 2013, the lever on mine is metal.The adapter also has a silver screw adapter inserted that makes it 1/4inch female thread for the monopod. Removing this adapter leaves a larger female screw thread in the plate itself which I suspect is 3/8inch (I don't have anything with 3/8 inch with which to test it).The plate is metal with a plastic inner and metal screw, and as mentioned by others the screw needs a coin (20p piece works) or screwdriver to attach to your camera.Overall I'm pleasantly surprised by this given the unexpected metal lever and mostly metal parts. The only slight reservation is that the spring on the lever does not feel that strong, but time will tell.It holds my Nikon D90 with a 70-300mm lens firmly in place on my monopod though.I bought from Amazon who said they have recently received new stock, so maybe Velbon have redesigned this slightly to improve it. For the price, and for those needing a basic fixed plate with a monopod/tripod having a 1/4inch screw mounting, this is recommended.

I am delighted with this adapter so much so have bought three.One for tripod,one for monopod, and one for Sony camcorder hand grip.They all work so well and are light weight and well made making interchangeability a doddle.The monopod has a Velbon PHD 31Q pan and tilt head fitted which is another excellent lightweight device, so as you can see I am a well satisfied customer.Well done Velbon and well done Camera King !B.Brown

Very good. I had an older tripod without a quick release mechanism, so this item now allows quick release. Lever is not plastic, neither is the shoe or housing - probably anodised aluminium. Got an additional shoe for my other camera.

What is there to say, it is a quick release adapter.I use these with 35mm film cameras on light weight tripods.If you want a neat compact unit that is well made and works well this one should do the job.

The design of this lightweight QR system has one major shortcoming - the most important component - the lever that holds the plate in place is Plastic! Also, the camera screw is one where you need to use a coin to fasten it.
