Bat out of hell Francis Durbridge
A young John Thaw makes a convincing lead as Mark Paxton, who gets involved with his bosses wife Diana Stewart played by Sylvia Sims.Planning the perfect demise of Geoffrey Stewart, suddenly things take a turn for the worse for Paxton and Diana. And so the tale continues as they realise that they are no longer in control of events. With Inspector Clay of the local Police piecing together the puzzle, Mark and Diana look to be in the clear but there are more twists and turns to come leading to a great finale.A super story, filmed around Chichester of the 1960's, John Thaw plays his part with the maturity we later saw in the Sweeney and Morse.

Just as one would expect from a F.Durbridge thriller.
Simply marvellous to be able to watch this jewel of a thriller. The perfect black-and-white viewing adds to the thrilling atmosphere, along with the always present sense of the unexpected, drama, fear, suspicion. Sweet and elegant England English; skilled British movie stars; unique chance to see how lovely the British countryside was back then. A wonderful present I made myself as an Italian in love with the English language. And if you are Britons in love with the Italian language, you can buy this same thriller, shot in England, black and white, same atmosphere,in Italian and compare the two.Thrilling viewing up there!

NO MEATLOAF HERE - ONLY PRIME DURBRIDGE
A joy for Durbridge fans. I don't remember ever seeing this on TV. I think I must have been busy elsewhere - It was the 60's! A splendid transfer, 4.3 ratio with good clear picture and sound (considering it's age-very good). Also optional English subtitles. My wife and I watched this over 2 consecutive nights and loved almost every minute. I hope this isn't a spoiler, but I wish there had been lots more suspects. A particular pleasure for me was Sylvia Syms, at her beautiful best (shame it was B/W). Moves along like an express train and I highly recomend it to all mystery lovers and Durbridge fans.

Watch out for the Red Herrings...
I enjoyed this serial and have vague recollections of seeing it back in the 1960s when viewing these BBC dramatisations was a must. The story is fast paced with quite a few red herrings. The transfer to DVD is clear as is the sound but it needs plenty of volume. The odd blank at the end of each episode is a mystery. John Thaw is very good and when you consider his young age then you knew he would go on to big things and he did.

Excellent Francis Durbridge
Good old fashioned Francis Durbridge thriller (with a very young John Thaw). Shown in 5 half hour episodes - we couldn't wait to find out what happened and watched it on one session. Recommended.

Slow start but interesting and entertaining
After the first episode it seemed very dated but as it went on I found this series interesting and entertaining, some good outside shots circa 1966

Very good
This was filmed in and around Chichester 54 years ago. Great to see how little it has changed. The story is good too. It still stands up
