Bought this to connect a PS4 to an older TV. Hooked it up as directed, got audio but no video. Since I had no video, I could not try changing the resolution on the PS4 without unplugging it and carrying it to another TV. The PS4 apparently doesn't keep these resolution changes when unplugged from the wall. Emailed the seller, who provide the same basic instructions I'd already done several times. Ended up buying a HDMI to composite converter locally. Crappy picture, but allowed me to see the PS4 menus to change resolution, then switch back to this converter without unplugging the PS4. Once I did that, I was able to play with the resolutions and get this converter to work. I cannot use 1080p, but can use all of the other resolutions. I'm guessing this is actually the fault of my old TV. The converter doesn't know that, so it and the PS4 kept setting to 1080p, which didn't work. THERE IS NO RESOLUTION BUTTON ON THE CONVERTER! This would have saved me a ton of time and buying extra hardware. For someone who is relatively tech-saavy like me, this was frustrating. If not, I'd have never gotten it to work.

Good: This does a nice job of converting HDMI to component video which is necessary if you are using a Slingbox to send video to another location. Most hdmi video contains HDCP copyright protection and can not be uploaded and sent vis the Slingbox. Converting to analog component strips away the HDCP signal and allows the video/sound to be uploaded and sent. Bad: Converter will not handle 1080p video. You must make sure that your cable box or Directv box is set to output a 1080i or 720p resolution signal, not 1080p. This is easily to do in the display resolution setup. Picture still looks great at the slightly lower resolution.

This was great. I had to get footage from a tv show for an actor and this allowed me to bypass some of the screen recording restrictions they used.

Bought this to connect an AppleTV 4th gen to an old 2004 era plasma. Didn't work, tried many things. As part of my troubleshooting i tried it with a 2009 era LED and it did work fine. Bought an "amazon recommended" converter to try the plasma again and the new one worked fine. So... three stars because this seems fine with newer TV's, but then again they have HDMI connectors.

We were able to use this to connect a Nintendo Switch to an old projector. For anyone attempting to do this, it did not immediately work upon connecting. We needed to change the TV resolution on the Switch to 720. Although, our projector is capable of 1080. Not sure why we had to drop to 720, but overall satisfied with the picture.

It does exactly what is meant to do but I have exchanged it a couple if times and I still see very light lines going up the screen, you cant see them unless the screen is darker. My hdmi ports are damaged so this still the best alternative.

I have a few recent newer devices and my old Sony DE3300ES's HDMI connections are not all working (or the sound signals are jumbled enough for the DVI output not to work). So these connectors allows me to get the video out through component YPbPR and the LDCM audio so that the surround works. I am really pleased with these. Construction is great and small enough to be tucked behind the amp. Powered via USB (comes with the charger) so I was able to easily hook them up to my multi USB charger and saving the provided ones for some other use in the future.

It was not clear to me based on the description of this item that it was simply a pass-through converter and not a scaler. I needed a scaler, so I sent it back for a refund and purchased a scaler which worked as expected.
