Like a magnet
I use MTB shoes, not XC shoes, so the shoe is large and flat and the clip hardware is recessed up into the shoe a fair way. But the shoes are great, I realize now my old SPD pedals were the problem. I had the hardest time finding the clips to get clipped in. Plus, the original pedals were one-sided (I won't do that again). It would take me way too much time to find the clips, and my buddies were already gone well down the trail ahead. I went looking for something easier to clip into.Enter the Funn Ripper pedals... Wow. It feels like a magnet compared to my old pedals. After struggling and struggling to get clipped in with the old pedals, the Rippers attach nearly instantly every time. They also feel much more locked in than the old pedals, probably thanks to the mechanism but also the gripper pins (I only installed the front pins, which works great with my shoes). This may be the best mountain bike purchase I've made.

Great all mountain pedals
I have two sets of these pedals. They replaced spd mountain pedals on my Hightower and my wife's Tallboy. You can get clipped in so much easier than the Shimano pedals they replaced. The platform offers superb support and works great when you miss the clip in. Very nice to have a solid platform in dicey situations trying to get clipped back in thanks to the spring loaded rocker mechanism. Brilliant! Release is great, very adjustable and have had no premature releases. My shoe is a 49 and the wife is a 39 so they work well over a wide range of sizes and body weight. Depending on shoe type pins may not hit your sole. A flatter sole shoe will work best and the pins do keep the floating to a minimum. Pins or not the pedals perform very well, my wife does not use the pins and likes them best that way. These are the best pedals we have used. I would not want to ride without them now that we made the switch.A word about Funn customer service:I have had the opportunity to interact with the Funn customer service team and they exceeded my expectations with the way they handled my situation. They stand behind there products and are very quick to respond.Durability has not been an issue and would not expect it to be. We ride in the PNW wet and muddy at times so I pulled the pedals apart before install to service them with my grease of choice. The rubber o rings that seal the axle to the pedal body were pretty dry and needed a light coat of grease IMO to help with sealing out water, dirt and preventing o ring wear. You can do a quick service right on the bike. Unscrew the cap on the outside end of the pedal, 6mm allen, and remove the 8mm nut and the pedal body slides right of the spindle. Clean and re grease and you are good to go. Quick, easy, and will defiantly extend the internals life with routine maintenance. The Funn Rippers have taken the worry out of missed clip ins and really improved our overall riding experience. Highly recommended!

Very good pedals
Very good pedals high quality don't put the pins on though because you won't be able to get your shoe off and don't tighten the bolts up too tight you'll end up stripping the bolts but overall I'm happy with them clipless pedals is a game changer in the mountain bike World i will never ride flat pedals again

Great pedals!
I've been riding a recumbent trike for over 16 years and have been using Shimano clipless pedals. The Funn Ripper pedals give my foot much more support and that means I'm much more comfortable and can ride longer without any foot pain. I saw these on The Trike Hobo's Youtube channel, in an episode devoted to foot pain and how to avoid it. I thought he made some very good points in his discussion of foot pain, nerve damage and pedal construction. I watched that video a couple of times, thought about it for a few days, and then bought the pedals. After putting on 35 miles in the last 2 days I can say these pedals are certainly worth the extra cost, and I wish I'd found out about them sooner! GREAT pedals!!

Excellent Large Platform SPD Pedal
I have been riding SPDs for decades. On mountain bike I like to set them just tight enough that I can't bunny hop out of them, and no tighter, so that I can get in and out of them without thinking about it. Because of this, the foot moves a lot when clipped in and I need to feel a solid platform in order to ride with confidence. Also, when my foot is coming on and off the pedal frequently, and may or may not click in, it needs to be big enough that I find it every time. Finally, they need to be tough.I have only had my Ripper's a few weeks but I've put well over 100 miles on them, mostly in the West Hills of Las Vegas. Very rocky terrain. Setting the tension to my satisfaction took all of a couple blocks and I haven't thought about it since. On the first day I thought my feet moved just a little too freely over the pedals during normal riding. I decided to install just the front two studs on each pedals face to conform to the shape of my shoe. By day two the pedals disappeared from my consciousness. They are just there. That's exactly what I want from a pedal.I have had platform pedals with and without rocker mechanisms on the clip. I find the rocker angle makes getting in the clip much more natural. I don't have to think about it. The Ripper rocker does what I expect.I do bang on pedals pretty hard. Sometimes I'm amazed at how hard I hit rocks. "How did I not see that?" I've hit these hard enough to pick the rear wheel up off the ground. Me and the bike weigh 260 lbs. The pedals show no sign of stress. That being said, I'm not a big jumper. I do drops with flat landings no taller than about 2 feet and have never had the chance to do big gaps. Most of my 'jumping' falls squarely into the bunny-hopping-over-roots category. So, unfortunately, I can't give the lowdown how sturdy the shafts are from that perspective. Finally, I love the idea of the rebuild kits. The last design of pedal I used for 25 or 30 years and was completely happy with them. But they no longer make them. I found one new set on eBay and realized if I break them or get a bad bearing I'm out of luck. I took a chance on the Funn Ripper and I'm glad I did.I wouldn't change a thing.

Ripper Pedals
Replaced my 20+ year old Shimano pedals with these because Shimano doesn't make this style any more. They work well, just like pedals should. :)

Great Pedal
They are mounted on a Santa Cruz Tallboy. I am "over-biked" and do not do too many technical-type rides. I have tried a variety of pedals, clipless, clip-on, Shimano, Magnetic, and Flat Pedals. I wanted pedals that could be mounted, which would allow me to use flat pedal shoes or clip-on shoes and these pedals were perfect so I ended up buying another pair for my second bike that I use for riding in the city. They are easy to clip in and out of; I use the Shimano SM SH 56 Cleat Set on my shoes. The pedals are also great looking.
