Well designed kubotan, pen, glassbreaker, flashlight all-in-one clipped inside my right, front pocket
This is a pen, flashlight, glassbreaker, and defensive (kubaton) weapon. As a weapon, this is much better than nothing, but you must keep in mind that civilized people don't go stabbing other civilized people with pens. If you do stab a civilized person, then you are not civilized and will be charged with battery. If you stab an uncivilized person that really deserves it, understand that uncivilized people like that tend to be good street fighters and may have a real weapon. Therefore, if you do use this as a weapon, study up on it and practice with it. I find that even without stabbing anyone, I like this pen. (Although I did lightly thump myself in the forehead and was really surprised how much that hurt. An ACTUAL attempt to cause pain would be 20x that!) As a pen ... This is my third tactical pen and I like that the cover snaps off and then snaps on tightly onto the back of the pen. Normally this snapon feature is frowned upon with a kubotan because it can be grabbed away from you leaving you with half of a pen, but there is still plenty of pen to hold onto with this pen. . Like most pens in this price range, you get a pressurized ink cartridge much like the Fisher Space Pens that write any time and any where. I have such a pen in my car and whether it be the dead of winter or the peak of summer, I can write a deposit slip or the like while using the ceiling of my car as a backboard. The ink flows smoothly and without blobbing or having to scribble start it. The one bad thing is that my other pens have smooth contours for holding AS a pen, but this has a flange edge that is not as comfortable to hold. The pen is also a tad heavy. Update 03NOV2016: As others have reported, the pen ships with a CHEAP cartridge. Mine leaked a bit from the front a bit earlier and now has gushed out the back. The overall pen is still good, but I need a new cartridge to use it AS A PEN. As a flashlight ... I was very surprised at how bright the light was when I slowly turned the top of the pen the first time while looking into the light, but this is nowhere near as bright as my 1000 lumen tactical light which is ONLY a flashlight and only a little bigger than my pen. Therefore, you're not going to be able use the light as a disorienting/blinding weapon the way you can with a tac light. This pen is perhaps 30lumens and is useful in a dark room for navigating around kid toys and the like while heading for bed or I just used it the other night holding it in my mouth so I could see under the hood of my car to do a jump start with the jump box I had. If I wore hats, this would have handily clipped to the brim of my hat to function as a headlamp. As a glass breaker ... I have little doubt that I could break a window with this if I struck the right spot. Windows are expensive though so I won't be testing this in the foreseeable future. I did need to deflate a plastic milk carton so that it would take up less space in the trash (er, recycle bin) so I did take the opportunity to stab it forcefully with this pen. The dull shape of the pen caused the pen to just bounce back at me until I took a more serious second swing and pierced through the carton up to my hand thereby leaving a satisfying half-inch, round hole behind. The pen shows no signs of wear from this; no mar, scratch, etc. Overall, I think this is my favourite pen. The Hoffman-Richter Stinger is better contoured, but is JUST a pen / kubotan. This pen has a better glassbreaker tip, a "DNA harvester" crown (that isn't so sharp that I self-harvest while putting my thumb there while stabbing cartons with the glassbreaker end), and a short range use flashlight. It also has nice knurled patches for a non-slip grip. I didn't find that the clip got in the way when holding as a striking weapon, but that all depends on how it is held. The clip definitely sticks out more than any other pen. For the price, this is excellent. You CAN spend over $100 for pens like this, but that is silly. I just might buy a couple more of these as gifts.

Well made, exactly what I expected, a good choice
I received my pen today and I have to say that, thus far, I have been very pleased with it. I originally purchased it to carry with me as a volunteer EMS worker, as the device allows me to have a pen, a light and a means of defense should the need arise, all in one. Although I have not (thank God!) yet had to use either the glass breaker or the DNA catcher, I can speak as to the quality and design of the pen itself. The pen feels sturdy, and the weight is decently balanced when using it as a writing implement, or using the light. The light is bright and would provide a focused beam that I believe would be a deterrent if shined directly into someone's eyes. (You only "flick" the light quickly past someone's eyes to test pupil response - no worries!) The construction seems very solid, and I believe would provide an effective weapon if either side were used with both vigor and intent to defend oneself, or another person. The pen has written well, and the fact that it uses standard Parker style ink cartridges is a plus. The only disappointing thing about it, thus far, has been the fact that it does not appear to be made in the USA. A small point, perhaps, but that would have made it even better, for me. All that being said, the device takes some practice to use smoothly and effectively. Familiarize yourself with how to turn the light on and off (the top bevel that is the DNA catcher turns) and with how the pen feels in your hand while writing with it and not, before you suddenly have to use it in an emergency. Michael Janich has an excellent series on Youtube on the use and advantages of implements like this and I recommend it highly. (Do a search for "Focused Impact" and I'm confident you'll find it.) Useful and protective, all in one. I am, thus far, quite pleased.

smooth writter, but gimmicky flashlight.
I was expecting too much from reading other people's reviews. The pen has good wight, but it feels cheaply made. One of the reasons that sold me and made me get this pen was the flashlight function, but was not impressed. It works when it wants too. To turn on the flashlight you need to unscrew the flashlight head a little bit and sometimes it doesn't work. I have other pen type flashlights that are better at this and to turn them on you just need to press the LED down. I think that us a better design that this one. One thing I did like was how smooth the writing is, but it doesn't write good at angles. I thought it was a compressed ink cartridge, but it is not. Overall it's an ok pen with extra features that don't stand out. It writes smooth, and the flashlight is bright, but it's hard to make it work and keep it at the highest brightness.

Overall, the quality of this pen is good. It's solid and has a nice weight to it. The LED works and is bright. My only issue is that this pen lonnnnng and LOOKS like a weapon. I actually bought it to replace a tactical pen that had the glass breaker opposite the pen-point, thereby offering no thumb brace when striking. And that one was already larger than most pens. This pen barely fits in a normal shirt pocket. If you're trying to put it in a cargo pocket with a flap, forget it. Plus, I'd be hesitant to try getting this through TSA or a courtroom security screening. Shorten this thing to the length of normal office pens, and get rid of half the "tacti-cool" dots and grooves, and you'd have yourself a good peice of equipment here.

Very promising product (UPDATED)
I've been looking for a good tactical flashlight, pen, and window-breaker for some time. I'm a First Responder and I like to have a lot of options in my tools so I needn't waste time swapping them out. I've been testing this item out since I received it. It feels solid and while I've yet to have the option of trying it out on a window; it writes well and doesn't seem to bleed if I keep it in my pocket. Also, the light looks like it might work well for checking pupil reaction in a patient, Clipping it into a pants pocket makes it wonderfully accessible. So far I'm pretty well satisfied and look forward to updating this review when I've chance to really put it through its' paces... Update: Performs well except under temperature duress. 'o' ring inside pen will not stand up to chilling and rewarming. I have been using this item in a cold warehouse where I need to go into and out of cold and warm environments often. Have been using it in this environment for about 3 months. Light also comes on unexpectedly when the top 'DNA Collector' is tapped. Writes well in a very cold environments no doubt due to the Fisher Space Pen refills it takes. Other than the aforementioned, its a very durable product; though I have not needed to use the glass-breaker as yet, it appears capable of doing the job.

Not practical!
Overall I am not very happy with this purchase at all. Right out of the box the flashlight flickered when I tried it for the first time. I loosened the cap to different degrees to see if it was going to remedy the problem but it was hit-and-miss really. I removed the cap to see if there was a problem with the battery contacts. Although I could not see any corrosion etc. which would cause the flicker, I realized another problem. The flashlight uses two tiny button cell batteries and not a standard AAA. If this tactical pen is going to be part of a bug out bag, a car kit or to be used for any other tactical purposes, now another type of battery inventory needs to be maintained in addition to your regular AA and/or AAA type. Furthermore these button cell batteries are so tiny, it will be a real challenge to replace them in dark or pitch black conditions or with gloves on. They are hard to handle due to their size, flip very easily during installation and very hard to determine their polarity just by touch. Another problem I have is with the DNA catcher. It is not razor sharp but pretty sharp nevertheless and definitely sounds like a great idea at first. However, “tactical pen self defense” techniques strongly recommend that the user should grip the pen with four fingers while pushing against the back cap with the thumb for extra stability and to prevent slippage. Do that with this pen during a self defense situation while using pointy end forward or braking glass in an emergency, chances are you will end up with one bloody and painful thumb due to the DNA catcher’s impact to your own thumb. The third problem I have with this tactical pen is that the pen cap, which is also the LED flashlight, is not screw-on. That definitely makes it easy when you want to write something, simply pull off the cap and it comes off, ready to write. However, remember that you will mostly grip your pen around that cap when using for self defense purposes. If an attacker grabs the front end of the pen even for an instance and pulls, you will lose the business end of your self defense tool to a now very pissed assailant no matter how strong your grip is. In general, build quality of the tactical pen feels pretty good and strong. I am not sure if the flashlight problem I experienced was just my luck or not. However, combining with other shortcomings I mentioned above, in my opinion this product is not near delivering what it promises.

Excellent Tactical Pen - High Quality Product, well designed and manufactured
This tactical pen definitely lives up to my high expectations (learned from various other reviewers). The design and manufacture of the pen are excellent, and everything works flawlessly. The cap is held securely in place, giving the pen a solid strong feel when the cap is on, yet it pulls off smoothly and fits securely on the other end so it stays in place when I am using the pen to write. The LED light on one end is handy to have and it also works well, turning on and off with a smooth turn of the end. All the parts are very well machined and the movable parts move smoothly but nothing seems "loose". I also like the fact that there are no logos or markings that might call unwanted attention to the pen, possibly causing overzealous TSA agents to view it as a weapon. I have not flown yet with the pen, but don't expect any problems in carrying this pen. The maker contacted me directly soon after my purchase and made it clear that they want to do anything required to handle any questions or issues. The pen itself is so good that I had no need for extra help, but they give the strong impression that they will provide any help a customer may need.

This puppy is quite sturdy. Very solid in-hand ----UPDATED--- Hard to recommend after 6 MO use.
As a tactical device it looks to have all the requirements. This puppy is quite sturdy. Very solid in-hand. The glass breaker is not obnoxiously obvious, but looks effective. DNA collector/strike point is not sharp, per se, but has a very honed edge. No doubt it too would be effective. It's also pretty imperative that it holds up and I have no doubt it will last as long as needed. As a writing device it's comfortable enough. The cap detaches from the writing end and reattaches to the opposite end with a very solid, satisfying snap. The light was the feature that pushed me to purchase this over other option and It's acceptably bright, but not surprisingly so. I really only have a couple criticisms that amount to a one star reduction. The clip is VERY heavy duty, which is better than light weight and feeble, but it's so heavy and tight against the pen body that it's difficult to actually slide over a shirt pocket or notebook. I anticipate i'll try to bend it just slightly, but wish I didn't have to. Also, the cap is so heavy and sturdy that when attached to the back-end of the pen (in typical pen cap saving fashion) the pen becomes overly back heavy when writing and I imagine fatigue-inducing if using extensively. You certainly aren't forced to attach the cap on the back - it's totally comfortable when used without - but then you have to manage the cap separately. Overall this is a very nice, sturdy tactical pen with very nice features. I can recommend it. Just be aware of a couple things and gauge how important they are to you. UPDATE: After using this for the last 6 months or so, I have a couple more items to add to my review. First, the glass-breaker insert that comes screwed into one end was never particularly secure (clearly no thread-lock) and has now come completely out and been lost. Second, the o-ring that presumably provides the friction/settling point for the cap has shifted/bulged/something that now prevents the cap from fully securing on either end. It's too heavy, and now poor design/quality. Although its price is good, it's just hard to recommend.
