The Devil's Hand [DVD + Digital]

I was not expecting much from the film but thought it still might be an entertaining flick from the trailer. I am an avid horror fan and a sucker for movies dealing with prophecies and exorcism etc. This film suffers horribly from the awful script curse called "I have no idea what kind of movie I am." This movie is so confused as to what it is about that even the seasons are not consistent in the background. It looks like spring or summer in the beginning and in the next scene there are fall leaves and then there are spring/summer flowers again and then it... You get the point. Given that the movie is supposed to take place in June and that the month is supposed to be important to the plot AS stated IN writing at the very beginning of the movie, it is beyond me why the director & producers were not be able to keep at least that consistent. Even the wardrobe and make-up departments totally drop the ball. What could be cheaper then dressing people up to look something akin to Amish? Apparently it was too hard for the "pretty" dresses the girls were during many scenes look like they came from Laura Ashley in the 1980s. As for the make-up, well it is way overdone and not just on the girls. Rufus Sewell has very obvious and badly done makeup, just check out his blush. There are some good actors in the film such as Rufus Sewell, Jennifer Carpenter and Colm Meaney. I seriously can't believe all three of them signed up for this project knowing the disaster of a plot the film ended up being. I could go on but I don't want to include any spoilers. If you still want to see the film, (from the reviews some people really liked it) I suggest waiting until it is part of Amazon Prim or the like.

This was much better than I expected. It was easy to see the end coming but I agree with the reviews that said it was a portrait of abuse with a supernatural twist. A sick cult leader hides behind God to molest young women, it's pretty clear the ones we see are not the first, and his 'flock' enables him. Not a new concept in movies or in reality, but entertaining enough. I think his obsession with their prophecy was less about protecting his charges and more about his own fear that he would get what he really deserved. When the time to pay for sins comes around, it's not God who doles out the punishment.

Most B horror movies are poorly made with terrible acting; this is a surprisingly solid film with a great cast. Because the entire film is based around the surprise ending, it holds no further interest for me (I usually watch movies several times), but I don't regret it. It's certainly better than The Village and The Village of the Damned, both of which had similar themes. This is NOT about an Amish community, but a small sect that lives similarly. I'm not sure why the description says "Amish," but I imagine whomever wrote it didn't watch more than a few minutes of it. They NEVER mention being Amish in the film. Just clarification. :)

I didn't really have high hopes, but this is a good movie. There is a lot to unpack and you think you have it figured out several times throughout the film, but I still managed to be surprised at the end. A few good scares with a decent plot, good acting. Worth the watch

The movie is a joke, but that is what you can expect from most horror movies.The storyline is weak and predictable.If you like lousy Suspense and Horror, this is for you.

Well made but never rises above being just another slasher film. A missed opportunity, the Amish town was a perfect place for weird supernatural terror but this movie never really capitalized on that and (except for the last 10 minutes) just went with a lazy slasher story. I kept waiting for the supernatural to appear while one routine slasher kill after another kept adding up. Still, there is some entertainment value here.

How the heck did they get all these stars to be in this so so of a horror movie. I gave the movie 4 stars as it is better than most of the horror movies.This is a decent movie to pass the time, as long as your expectations aren't too high.

Whilst the main comment I would make is that this film has a great script, and is well acted, I would have liked some extras thats all. The evil on one level is the evil done in the name of religion. As for the comments I see in multiple reviews about Parental Guide, no Swearing; I just have to think that this has some elements of abuse done in the name of religion, and thats not a reason to sound a parental warning ? If all we have to worry about in films is if the F bomb is dropped, then its a sad world. This film covers some issues in two fronts, and it does it very well. The scope for discussion by Directors commentary would have been quite good. I must admit I prefer escapist films, or at the very least, a film with a message, and/or a film where the bad guy gets his come-uppance. This film to me is unique in that it covers this topic on two levels; its rare that a film like this does a secular/spiritual coverage of a set of issues. And yet, some reviews are concerned with whether or not the F bomb is dropped?? This filmcould work as a CSI, or a episode of SUPERNATURAL, yet it seems to straddle both. The biggest issue in my view is the evil in the name of religion. If a parent would seriously decide whether this film was appropriate on the basis of swearing, I doubt the parenting skills. Great Script, great performances. And I agree with some other reviewers about the tag-line, Love it. There is more to this film than some viewers have seen. I hope it gets released with extras. Would be nice given some of the topical content. Add a fewswear words just to aggravate the peanut gallery :-) ... But seriously, I think some kids would find certain aspects of this film very disturbing.

Der Film an sich ist ganz gut und das Finale war auch überraschend, fand ich. An der technischen Umsetzung des Films auf dieser BluRay kann ich auch nichts kritisieren. Mich hat nur wie so oft in B-Movies die doch mäßige schauspielerische Leistung enttäuscht. Nicht unbedingt Colm Meany, aber der Rest des Sets war für meinen Geschmack zu farblos, nicht durchweg überzeugend und an vielen Stellen nicht richtig authentisch. Schade eigentlich für einen doch sonst guten Film. Die BluRay verkaufe ich wieder.

En lo personal no me gustan las películas de terror, me dan miedo, pero me animé a ver esta porque la trama se me hizo interesante además de tener varios nuevos actores jóvenes y talentosos. Es recomendable para pasar el rato, aunque pudieron haber hecho algo mejor con una trama así, pero sigue siendo entretenida. La película te va a dar varios sustillos, que no son nada si te gusta este género, pero a mi si me asustaron. En conclusión denle una oportunidad y véanla, pueden checar el trailer en Youtube para ver si así los convence.

3 D grottenschlecht, Der Film entgegen sehr gut, zwar etwas langatmig aber ansonsten hat er uns sehr gut gefallen. Deswegen 4 Sterne, aber 3 D hat nicht mal einen Stern verdient.

Hier hätte man deutlich mehr herausholen können...Der Film plätschert meistens leider vor sich hin statt Spannung aufzubauen.Dabei sind Story, Setting und Schauspieler eigentlich solide gewesen...
