Works very well.
Had a really bad rotten egg smell from our hot water. Google led me to discover this was caused by an anaerobic bacteria that lives in our hot water tank, and feeds on the magnesium or aluminum anode. So I purchased this Al/Zn anode. After installing it (removing the old one, which had to have been there for 20 years, was difficult. Used a 24" breaker bar, with a 3 foot "plumber's cheater", thought I was going to tear the threads out of the tank) and flushing out all the iron sediments from the tank, and the smell disappeared. We're on a well, so no chlorine in our water. If you are on city water, you have rotten egg smells from your hot water and a long way from the treatment plant, this may be a solution for you. Chlorine does kill the bacteria, and most people on municipal water will never have this problem.3 months later, we're still enjoying the water, with no odor at all.

Was hopeful but now am growing more disappointed
I moved into a house that had a 20 yr old water heater with an original anode rod. There was an egg smell that was overwhelming when we used hot water in the house and nonexistent with cold water. I was going to buy this and put in that old heater. Instead I bought a new water heater and then bought this aluminum zinc rod and put it in the new one. I have had this installed in the new heater now for a little over three weeks. At first the smell was completely gone. Now it is starting to come back. The photo for this product shows a blue rod. The rod I received was silver. But the part number on it when I searched the internet came up as aluminum zinc alloy so I thought it was correct and would fix the problem. Now I am hoping the smell does not continue to worsen. If it does then I will be removing the rod and cutting it so I only have the plug. I feel like I should have saved the 65 dollars and done that in the first place.

Awesome
I tried treating my well. No help. Then someone pointed me to this. Worked great. Been in the 4 years. Going strong. Certain bacteria flatulence eating the standard magnesium rod smells like sulphur. Change the bacteria's diet to aluminum and you change the smell of their gas. I am no chemist sooo don't comment back on how wrong I am. I just know this is how gases are formed in landfills. Things biodegrade by bacteria eating it. No bacteria and not breakdown of material. LOL

New anode, arrived as advertised.
It arrived quickly and installed easy. The installation directions were very thorough. Removal of the old anode was the most difficult part of the entire project, view you tube for help. Removal required me to use a breaker bar, with both hands, and pushing on the wall with one foot!!!

FIXED THE PROBLEM
We have a rental property and although the water heater was old, it worked well. However, the water had a slight odor and we looked all over for one of these rods. While shopping on AMAZON, I found this rod and showed my husband. He said, "Order it," and I did. Seven months later there is still no odor in the water. We realize eventually we will need to replace the water heater, but until then . . .problem solved. It arrived sooner than scheduled, so no complaints here!

THE STINK IS GONE-THANK GOD!!
THE ZINC-ALUMINUM ANODE DID EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS MEANT TO DO......GOT RID OF THE AWFUL 'ROTTEN EGG SMELL' FROM OUR HOT WATER HEATER. ITS BEEN IN USE FOR ONE MONTH WITH NO PROBLEMS. CHANGE OF REVIEW... ROTTEN EGG SMELL CAME BACK IN ABOUT 6 MONTHS...ROD FAILURE COULD NOT DO THE JOB FOR VERY LONG.

and our hot water smelled horribly of sulfur
This rod is a lifesaver. The old anode in our water heater had basically turned to complete mush (it did what it was supposed to!), and our hot water smelled horribly of sulfur. Once we put in this new rod, the smell completely disappeared. It's been over four months, and we still have odourless hot water. This purchase was definitely worth it!
