So Far so good, high pitch noise resolved for now
Kind of scary that this thing emitted the high pitch tone that I was afraid of within 2 days, but who knows how long its been boxed up and possibly contaminated. A call to Panasonic 800-405-0652 and a few prompts later and I finally got to speak with a human. I was told to do a "head cleaning" to the machine.****Take tape out and While pressing Erase Prevention Lever (its a lil arm on the right/upper portion inside where the tape goes) press the Record Button. It will spin the wheels until u press stop.********************** Now, why I didnt have to actually "clean" the head with any kind of alcohol and swab is beyond me. Either way this has worked so far. I hope this may help others. I will try and keep track of this issue and post any other problems/solutions.******UPDATE.....As of 11/4/2009 we have not had any issues at all. The machine is used 4-5 times a week for at least 2hrs per day. Havent had the dreaded screeching noise again either. It paid for itself quite quickly******

Microcassette Transcriber
The sound is not great. I was expecting a better product. I use it at our law office transcribing bosses tapes.

Panasonic RR-930 Transcriber Review
I was happy to get a new unit as I understand Panasonic stopped making this model. This model has better clarity than most other comparable types of transcribers and it will transcribe cassettes that have broken plastic parts or wrinkled tapes 99% of the time when other brands of transcribes will not. I have several transcriptionists who work for me and they are often returning tapes that their machines will not play however the Panasonic RR-930 almost always plays, 99% of the time is able to play the tapes unless the tape is actually broken in two. I rarely have to return a tape for the doctor to re-dictate a report because of a faulty cassette or tape problem.I am sorry to hear that Panasonic is not making this model any longer as we do have several doctors here who have not gone the digital route and still prefer tapes.

Great for taking minutes
I used this machine for years to take minutes of business meetings and it was used when it was handed over to me. I used it for ten years before it gave out. When researching a replacement, I could not have been happier when I found this same brand and model available. I am not tech savvy but I can adjust the speed of the tape, the tone and volume and voice speed. I do not use the foot pedal to pause, rather I use the pause button. There may be as many as 15 people in the room and I sit near the center of one of 4 long tables (2 long tables butted together adjoined to 2 across). This easily picks up everybody's voices. This has enabled me to record our minutes far easier than I could do by hand or with just a standard tape recorder.

Defective when it arrived, one of the spindles appears to have a bent shaft and wobbles some.
I have had two previous Panasonic transcribers and they were both fine. The outside box that Amazon placed this machine in was in perfect condition when I received it, but the inside box was beat up and had been taped together. I would guess that someone else had received this machine and had returned it. I called several of the phone numbers listed in the book that came with this machine and was told that it was a discontinued item and they didn't work on these machines any more. If they cannot find someone to honor the warranty and fix the defect, I feel that the company should offer to have it returned and refund my money.

It's okay.
It arrived in pristine condition as well as the pedal and a brand new headset. However, in using it, I found that the backspace control slide button is not adjustable from the beginning of the slide button to the end. I will have to struggle with it because I had already sent back the Panasonic RR-830, which was not the transcriber I needed and the postage was very high. Does the owner have any idea of how I can fix the backspace control slide button from this end? I will await your reply.

Great Company and product
As a medical transcriptionist, when my transcriber quits working I am out of a job. Believe it or not, there are still doctors out there who only dictate to tape. My doctor is one of them and when my machine quit I was panicked! Magma Group came to my rescue. I explained my predicament and they said they would help any way they could though as the transcriber originates in the USA the delivery was probably going to take 3 to 4 weeks. They kept me informed via email of the progress and actually managed to get it to me 2 weeks from my order date. I am so grateful and the machine looks and feels like new. Works like a charm! Many kudos and THANK YOU!

This is not a new machine
Defies logic that this machine was new. It appears to of been purchased at a garage sale. The foam on the headphones disintegrated and were dirty. The box was torn and it refused to play —-my secretary refused to use the machine.
