• Set Content: 1000g's (Approx 370 - 400 sets) • Well known Onion sets producing large bulbs. • Resistant to bolting. • Supplied in size 14-21mm. • Planting Growing Instructions Planting onions from sets is by far an easier process than planting them from seeds. We supply all our onions as sets (baby onions) so as to make growing them a pain free process for all our customers. They should be planted in fertile/good quality soil that is well drained (this is important). Plant onions approx 4 inches apart or 6 inches for shallots, with the tip of the onion sets slightly above soil level. They should be planted in a row in March/April. • Cultural Instructions They will start to sprout very quickly once planted, often as quickly as two to three weeks. Make sure that your local garden birds do not damage the rows and it is also a good idea to keep weed free once planted. Once they have finished sprouting the leaves will turn yellow, so lift them at this time and store in a cool dry place until they need to be planted again (they usually keep for up to 8 months). • Soil is best prepared the previous season with organic matter. Do not plant on a freshly manured bed. • Try to avoid planting in the same place as onions from current or previous year. • Sow March – End April in the UK... • Plant like small bulbs so that the tips are just showing above the soil 10cm apart with 20cm between rows. (Closer spacing will produce smaller mature onions) • Protect during early growth if you have squirrels or pigeons in the area. Keep weed free. • (Please note onion sets are supplied by weight and exact counts of onion sets per packet will vary with the size of the sets.) • Suitable for the garden, allotments and containers. Be prepared to water well and supplement feed with high-potash feed during season. Regular feeding is recommended.
