Andrea Camilleri Inspector Montalbano Mysteries 10 Books Collection Set (Series 1)

They are a series of books. What can I say. I just got them.

This author was recommended to me a few years ago by an Italian student in a conversation where Donna Leon was mentioned. These books are not Donna Leon, but they're even more not Mankell or Nesbø. I like them, reading a few pages each night provide a nice anesthetization for falling asleep. I'm on the 4th out of the first set of 10 books. Inspector Montalbano is quite pleasant company even if he is often insulting and violent toward his colleagues. Montalbano exposes us daily to various culinary delights of Sicily, especially pasta with fish, or boiled in Tintenfisch ink (I have eaten this once in Venice). His translator was so thoughtful as to provide a short dictionary at the end of each volume explaining Sicilian phrases and some history. It is in any case well written and entertaining.

This series has apparently been around for years but I just discovered it. Love the characters and the writing (or is it the translation?)

I was lucky to order a set of 10 books because once I put down the first one I started the second one straight away. It kept me sane during the first weeks of lockdown. Not sure how long the current affair will last - but one thing is: I defo will order the next 10 books.

These books are simply brilliant! Funny, clever, large doses of Italian drama and bureaucracy dealt with aplomb by Montalbano. Just great stuff - Camilleri was a genius.
