Lensgear Large Sized Lens Gear for Follow Focus, 10" Long x 0.43" Wide

I’m a photographer and cinematographer. My video is right at the point of being a year or two away from funding $20K in cinema glass. Until then, I’ve tried all the usuals, including sized rings, and PERSONALLY, I SUGGEST THESE, here’s why. The only real thing is lens throw, and if your using ones req a full turn, no rings will really work, unless you alter fitted rings to be permanent. Not often do I see that so, I suggest this: everyone has, if not hit goodwill and get rubber wrist bands, they add friction to stop slippage, add some bite for your FOLLOW FOCUS, and the add size adjustment for best fit and angle. I’ve used rolls of 2sided padded tape, in the end, it’s really no different, except maybe a mm or 2, sizing (u can cut the bands also, I prefer not to). All that said, every other ring A: costs 3-4 x more,( I’ll save my $, for lenses), B, realllly doesn’t look very good unless you diy mod the screw down ones, and prefabed are a ton of dough. These are as strong, hold better cuz you zip tie them tight,( I recommend 1 size up & stronger than supplies ties), the teeth, I’ve used em all, just seem to stay crisp on these, CRISP. Shoot your best scene, and as your focus puller hiccups a tooth on a gear in the last second, you’ll understand what I mean. Or buy these and YOU WON’t!!!!!

Works great and is wide enough for most lenses but it's expensive for what it is.

These are basic gear strips that are attached at the ends using two small Zip ties that are supplied. Nothing fancy. And not that pretty once attached. I've found different cheaper gears that I drilled a similar hole at each end and attached using similar zip ties for half the cost.

I already own 2 of these lens gears and am about to purchase my 3rd. To date, I've used three different styles of gears on my various DSLR lenses and this particular kind is the best fit for me. I have a large one that fits my Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 lens & 24-105mm f4L and a smaller one (smallest? I can't remember) that fits on an old Nikkor 28mm f2 manual lens. In terms of functionality, they do what they're supposed to; I haven't had any issues with slipping or not catching correctly. Another reviewer had commented that since each gear ends up being the diameter of the lens it's on, there's a lack of consistency in sizing. This is true, but some follow focus mechanisms are adjustable (mine has some adaptability) and risers for rods are also available.To give you an idea, my main job is that of a photographer (mostly weddings and portraits, but some commercial and editorial work). Over the last few years, I've been incorporating more and more video into my workflow. I wanted a FF gear that I could leave on the lenses without hindering my ability to shoot pictures. These are perfect for that purpose. If your focus (camera pun!) is more geared toward video (another camera pun!) then perhaps it's better to choose lens gears with a standard diameter and spacers to adjust for each lens.A tip for use: the gears come with a couple sets of zip ties (which are fairly durable despite their small size), but things happen and ties can break. I picked up a package of a few hundred small zip ties at a hardware store and keep a dozen or so in my camera bags in case of emergency.Overall, my biggest complaint is the price. This is a simple piece of equipment and I'm sure they're cheap to manufacture. I feel they should be half the price listed. With that said, they're absolutely the best option I've found for my line of work and I'll pay the price for the convenience.

These are a great idea that needs more work. It's rather difficult to measure your lenses and order the right ones. I have several lenses and this was a pain that required several returns.They need a system where it is easier to customize the sizing. for each piece of glass. Then it would truly be effective and brilliant. They are nice to attach and leave on your lens so you don't have to deal with setting so much gear up before a shoot. However one issue you will have - if you don't have all cinema lenses - is that the size differences between lenses may not accommodate many follow focuses. (when compared to standard size lens gears.)
