It works.......but there are challenges!
The good news is - it works! You WILL lose weight if you follow the guidelines. Most of this is not new advice - reduce sugar and alcohol, reduce low nutrition carbs, increase veggies and protein, and manage portions. However, it makes some important distinctions that were new to my nutrition regime. First and most importantly, it distinguishes between starchy and non-starchy veggies.....and you need to eat a LOT of the non-starchy kind - at least 5 servings (1 cup raw or frozen per serving, 1/2 cup cooked per serving). It has been a serious challenge to eat sufficient portions of a variety of veggies. And you will notice a serious difference in your bowel habits! Second, it advises not all fruits are created equal (some, like very ripe bananas and grapes) have a lot more natural sugar and need to be limited. Third, the first 10 days (The Clean Start) eliminates all 'dry carbs' (pasta, crackers, bread, tortillas, etc) and seriously limits even good fats (like olive oil). While it is a good strategy, it is very challenging to do. (Having said that, after doing without for 10 days, you realize that those foods are not really contributing to your eating enjoyment from a flavor perspective.) Lots of information on how our bodies process different types of food, although nothing particularly new here. And there are sample menu plans and some recipes, but not nearly enough to get you through the first 10 days. And many recipes you see online, even those that focus on nutrition, will be unsuitable during those first 10 days. Overall, an improvement to the average weight loss plan; however, it is lacking in realistic meal plans and recipes.

THE DOCTOR for learning healthy eating and permanent weight loss!
Dr Melina Jampolis is a great resource to learn healthy eating for permanent weight loss. I know, I lost over 100 pounds with her coaching. And, I have kept most of it off for 5 years now! What I like about her latest book, THE DOCTOR ON DEMAND DIET, is the practical advice, and easy way of choosing healthy foods that will ensure weight loss and appetite control. One of the weight loss keys for me was to include nuts in my diet daily. I had always been told to avoid these. So many pearls of wisdom here, and there is so much to learn from this book about yourself and how to reshape your eating. I really urge you to invest in a copy and begin your path to a healthier relationship with food.

I looked through it and it pretty much comes close to the Providia's Food Lover Program.which talks about food portions and journaling. I don't like to journal.

Very Helpful Nutritionist!
Helpful book. It gives good tactics & examples for dieting. Tasty recipes. It is a good reference book while dieting.Very helpful in understanding nutrition.

Great book and realistic approach to weight loss!
Great approach Dr. Melina!!! It still takes commitment, BUT it's very obtainable for those that really want to make it work. Dedicate yourself the very obtainable / sustainable phases and you will loses weight, feel better AND be able to keep it off (due to the logical approach!)

Very informative book and easy to understand
Very informative book and easy to understand. I like how she acknowledges that the same plan of action does not work for everybody. The recipes she included are simple and no crazy ingredients.
