Forney 72390 Dresser for Bench Grinding Wheels, 10-1/2"

A grinding wheel dresser actually smooths the rough used surface of a grinding wheel that is used to sharpen knives or remove/shape metal. This one worked fine to flatten the grinding wheel.

I took a gamble as this looks like a cheap, plastic, wonky novelty tool. When it arrived I was surprised to have a sturdy metal tool which dressed my clogged grinder wheel in seconds. I was completely amazed; it's one of those, how did I ever live before this, type of tool. I immediately purchased the replacement blade kit, not that I needed them, It appears I'll get a decent amount of cleaning done with the currently installed ones. The only reason I would give this product a 4.5 star rating is because the sprockets sit loosely on their shaft to conform to the wheel shape, which conversely makes it a poor shapper compared to the diamond dresser I have been using. Other than that I'm completely satisfied with this tool.

I had issues with my grinding wheel after using it on some aluminum pieces. I went to several stores trying to find a different type of wheel that could be used for aluminum and found nothing. Finally I spoke with a gentleman who explained that aluminum gets too hot and melts into the grinding wheel making it smooth. A dresser is used to clean the wheel and give you a new surface. I was not able to find one of these in any stores so I looked to Amazon. So far this tool has worked great. It is well made and it's easy and cheap to replace the discs. I am very happy with this tool.

It was just like the picture. I ran across a video showing how to make tour grinding wheel link like a new one. I looked at my local big box stores and they had to be ordered, I went to Amazon and could get it a couple of days earlier. The price was comparable but I got free shipping. I was amazed how easy it was to use. You need to take all safety precautions when using this tool. If you are not sure what they are, go online and search for videos on the proper was to use the tool.

It is a very appropriate tool to dress a grind stone. It is good quality and you should look into using it the right way

This dresser tool did a good job of dressing a new stone I had purchased that was out of round however the tool took a beating during the process and I can't see it doing this too many times until the dresser wheels need to be replaced. For the money I paid I would expect it to be more durable; the dresser wheels are apparently made of soft metal. I would not buy this item again.

I cleaned an my grinding stone that was full of plastic, wood, plastic and it not only put my stone like new but it was also even across the front. It wasn't rounded as the become over time and I did it in less than a minute.
