Deception [Blu-ray]

Hi...it seems this movie is really overall not very well liked....everyone claiming the story was too predictable! Think about it, aren't most stories the same plot rehashed in a different way? I, for one, was not able to see where the movie was taking me (even if I suspected Jackman's character early on)...there are several factors of this movie that help it rise way above the typical thriller---Jackman's performance (I thought the entire cast was great), the photography (a nice blend of film and digital), unique framing of every scene, moments of incredible tension, and some nice plot twists. See the "alternate ending" on the special features..I actually thought it was an even better way to end the movie! I just finished watching this movie for the 2nd time and caught a few interesting things I missed the first time out. What can I say...I love this movie...

It started out promising and was engaging throughout so long as u ignore the incongruences in characters. The plot fell apart slowly at first and then dramatically toward the end.

This is a modern noir movie superbly acted. It has a great cast with Jackman like you have never seen him before. Good plot. I highly recommend it if you like sexy nourish films with a great cast.

I'm willing to work with a movie like this and overlook plot holes in order to have an enjoyable time. But this one relied constantly on characters reacting to events in completely implausible ways. At first it just seemed like lazy writing, where they didn't bother to come up with good reasons why this or that happened. But at a certain point there were just too many of these to go along with it. And the main character is alternately massively stupid and incredibly clever and resourceful, and also doesn't seem to have a consistent fundamental personality. And lastly, in retrospect, the bad guy's plan makes no sense, as there would have been much easier, and more likely to succeed, alternatives. And that seems fatal for a what's-going-on? movie like this.

good - could have done a better ending

Every couple of years I think, "what was that movie with Hugh Jackman and Ewen MacGregor?" Then I dig around, find out the name, and watch it again. Next time I'm. Just going to buy it. It's an engaging movie that sneaks up on you and GRABS you. I don't want to give anything away. The cast is really good but Hugh Jackman blew me away.

Very interesting plot and mystery to it. It makes you realize when watching that there is a whole different world out there than we realize sometimes.It will capture your attention to what in the world will he do and what is going to happen next. If you like a little unusual movies this is the one for you . Enjoy!

I really liked this picture because the actors are really good ( see the changes in their personality when Hugh Jackman turns to bad ( he also is a good actor because he can be nice and smiling and also cold and ruthless) and Ewan gets his revenge.What I like best is Ewan: he is really a chameleonic actor, what I mean is you see him in a picture and then in another and he's not the same person, he looks like someone else too: he has the power to metamorphose himself in the part he's playing ( like for example Peter Sellers)and look as if he were a different person each time.In this film, he changes radically from the timid accountant to the player and a winner in Hugh's game.The plot is a classic one but the way the picture is made is different.They say it's hichcockian but it's a bit true but things are maybe not strange enough.It reminds me a bit of Vertigo when Kim Novak disappears.I recommend this film, you will have a nice time.

Wer sich sonst in dem Genre nicht so auskennt, sollte diesen Film wirklich sehen: die Schauspieler sind durch die Reihe spitzenklasse, die Story interessant und wendungsreich.Leider werden alle anderen sich ein wenig langweilen - hat man schon andere Filme mit ähnlichen Themen gesehen, so wird die ganze Sache relativ vorhersehbar und die Spannung ist dahin. Viel Neues bietet der Film wirklich nicht.Hugh Jackman und Ewan McGregor sind aber trotzdem noch mehr als sehenswert, ohne sie wäre der Film nichts. Sie spielen brillant wie immer und verleihen dem Ganzen eine besondere Note. Für Fans also ein Muss.Kurz: Fünf Sterne für die Hauptdarsteller! Zwei Sterne Abzug für ein vorhersehbares Drehbuch.

As another reviewer has said, there is a problem with the UK Bluray version of this film.I originally bought a copy of this film on Bluray from a pound store. Neither of my 2 bluray players or my 2 bluray computer drives would recognize the disk.I decided to get a copy from Amazon themselves. The item came quickly and was shrink wrapped.But I have the same problem with this disk too. Again, it wouldn't work in either of my 2 players or either of my computer bluray drives. It's therefore not a firmware problem with the player, but a manufacturing defect/batch.Shame, as the film itself looks interesting.
