The Art and Making of The Expanse

An awesome book that goes into some great detail!
Bought this as a gift for a The Expanse fan. Little did we realise just how much detail the designers had gone to in order to create the believable worlds. Almost every aspect of the design of the ships, stations, suits, costumes, weapons, CG shots, everything, has been meticulously thought through to ensure the show is as engaging and believable as possible. This book contains page after page of stills from both the show and behind-the-scenes to show you how the shots were made. Moreover they also include CG preparation shots and wireframes to demonstrate how the CG was done, and how the computers composited the shots so seamlessly. The careful consideration made of each of the ships, and each of the factions was a delight to read through, and you could see the love and attention the crew have given to making sure the audience can tell at-a-glance who they're looking at, and whether they're bad or good.A brilliant source material for fans of the series, as well as a demonstration of how to get the portrayal of a Sci-Fi universe so right!

Disappointed. Poor for modellers
The good: high quality, well written and interesting. The mediocre: Not nearly enough development art. Seeing the development of vehicles and characters through concept art is one of my favourite parts of art of books. I've seen better examples of the progress of development of Expanse elsewhere so I know they exist. The bad. The Rocinante is the main ship in this show. She's a character in her own right yet we only get clear image of one of the three paint jobs she's had (so far). As a model maker with a Rocinante awaiting painting this was the main reason I bought this book. Clear shots of the ship are hard to come by. There are some great images of the ship in her original livery but that is when she was the Tachi and that is changed very quickly in the series. There are two quite nice images of the most recent livery but neither are great for model reference due to how the model is lit in them. They disappointingly also only show two elevations. Worse, the livery used longest in the show only gets one image and that's a close-up of the nose cone art.Seriously guys, you didn't realise that fans were going to want to see the changes to the Roci clearly?NB It only covers up to season 4

Gorgeous and hefty
A large and gorgeous book, full of interviews and behind thescenes. The only downside is it only goes up to about season 3,apart from that..totally worth a buy

Good to see behind the scenes
Could have maybe done with less cast photos and more concept art but as this is the first art book for The Expanse I'm just happy it exists. If you're a fan, you will enjoy.

It is a book
Most informative view of the people involved in the making of The Expanse, a sci fi series broadcast on Amazon prime.

Stunning and worth a buy
The book is stunning. Great quality and excellent info. I sadly have to send it back because one of the pages was damaged. No clue how this could happen but if I am buying something as a collector then I don't want the thing to arrive in a sad state.
