The combined two-semester version ; Blechh
I haven't read the book yet, but wanted to report on the two-semester combined text. I got it used on the Marketplace for a terrific price and in perfect shape, so it was a great bargain, and plan to take both semesters. If you have to carry the text on mass transit or any distance around campus, you might want to stick with the separate volumes. The combined version weighs a ton.4/2020--I read several post 1865 chapters and was very disappointed. Book is ideologically slanted toward the status quo and against labor--y know the folks who built the economy under very harsh conditions (not to mention enslaved labor). How can you write a book about American history without giving a fair representation of working men and women? I dropped the class quickly.By contrast, Eric Foner's Give Me Liberty is a standout of multiple perspectives. I was fortunate to get a class that used Foner instead. Thorough, clear, well organized and punctuated with headings and questions. Every chapter is a revelation. I find I need to keep going back to reread and remember the details, but it's very rewarding.Don't bother with American Stories. Or at least get a supplementary text.

I enjoyed this textbook
American Stories is a textbook in my American History college class and I enjoyed reviewing things I learned years ago and also getting new knowledge. It is well written and easy to follow.

The book is what was required and price is great. However
The book is what was required and price is great. However, the book was received damaged with a broken spine. As long as we aren't held accountable for that damaged book, it was a good deal, even though it is annoying working with a book with a broken spine.

Poor Quality
I rented this book for my class this semester and the book looks like itโs about to fall apart. Iโm not sure it will make it through the semester

The author really hit the head on the nail with this history book. It tends to stray from the opinionated and sometimes biased authors encountered in some history books. Well documented and an easy read this is an excellent book for both educational purposes and the history buffs!
