INCREDIBLY USELESS
The unit arrived today. I read the manual and put it to work. It FAILED after only 41 scans. I suspect the power supply but tech support at Pacific Image Electronics convinced me to send back the ENTIRE UNIT. I had to ship it at my expense, Warranty repairs are expected to take from 2 days to FOUR MONTHS!But wait, it gets better. I just got a phone call from Pacific tech support. He advises me NOT TO RETURN the unit. He says they haven't had these in stock in quite a while. He says they cannot repair or replace the unit. He advised that I return it to the seller (Amazon).I would give this product NO STARS if I could. The scans were excellent. I was excited about the machine. But 41 scans is not what I needed.

Bad Quality
I tried scanning some Medium Format negatives and was disgusted by the quality. Very fuzzy and unsaturated, low contrast, and even the photos came out unevenly cropped. Seems like there is just a cheap webcam inside that takes a picture of it... I expected more than that.

You get what you pay for
I was reading the reviews and was dredding purchasing this scanner. I still purchased it anyways. Honestly, after comparing this other film scanners. Choose this scanner if you are on a tight budget but if your have the money, then go big and get a more decent scanner. I bought this scanner to scan 120 film and for some reason there are not a lot of scanners out there for people on a budget. Next affordable price was $250 and that was used. This scanner basically just scans the film. So you will be doing some touch ups in post. The scanner will turn a negative to a positive and do some color correction. This versus other scanner that give you better quality and scans. You get what you pay for. This scanner is also not a traditional scanner. Its a CMOS scanner. Which in one of the previous reviews. It is basically a camera in a box with a light behind it.

Saved by some Software!
I bought this negative/slide scanner to be able to scan my 120 (2 1/4X2 1/4) film items. In some previous reviews, I saw that some were not satisfied with it. However, I knew that old photos need to be repaired and cleaned up. There is no software that comes with this scanner, but I had a program from ArcSoft that does that. I am having FUN with this and it's a joy to be able to save some of my old, old negatives and slides. In some cases, better than first taken. And, this scanner was at an affordable price to do that. Thank you!

Good value, more than acceptable results and a great way to inexpensively preserve family history
I've been using this scanner off and on since I bought it in August. I am very happy with the results. I inherited a box of old 120 negatives from my parents and grandparents and have been using it to recapture some of my "lost" family history. Maybe the scans won't translate well to 16 x 20 enlargements but they look good, very good in fact, on my computer screen. Some of the results of scanned negatives look better than the original prints, sharper and with more detail and better contrast. When the next least expensive scanner that has a mask for 120 is over $200, the decision to buy this one was easy and I've been very happy with the results. It does take some "playing" with to be sure images are loaded in the masks correctly and are flat and I've found that I need to do some adjustments to make sure the entire negative is in the proper position in the scanner, easily fixed with a wiggle or two of the mask. The set up of the scanner is not intuitive but all it takes is a willingness to play with it a bit, after all, pixels are free, to be sure you get the best quality image. This isn't a high end scanner but it is a fraction of the cost and produces more than acceptable results. I would recommend this to anyone looking to preserve family memories.

Defective
Broken right out of the box. The display screen does not show anything. It gets slightly illuminated when the scanner is plugged in, but no image and no icons appear.

its okay
It is very lightweight plastic which was a surprise to me for the price paid. Manual has limited information for a novice. Example: manual has the size (12M-1M) is this for showing on the computer or little viewer on the MemorEase ST? Manual doesn't really tell how to return from viewing back to rescanning screen/option. Attached the scanner to computer to view pictures, easy, but when removed from computer had to unplug MemorEase ST and reset the entire thing. Will scan all film without reviewing them, attach to computer and edit through computer. It will do what is needed, just won't use the fancy stuff, including the magic touch, until sure needed. Recommend using a flatbed scanner with adapter for film, used one, it was a lot better. So! didn't give it an A rating, C at best.

Worked great for 120 format--see pic attached
Using this for 120 scans. I don't know if other people got a lemon or just didn't go through the setup menus right but for $79 I'm freaking stoked. The attached picture was taken with a used Bronica SQ I pieced together from parts. Inexpensive Ultrafine 100 asa 120 film souped in Ilfosol3 1:14 150mm lens F16 1/125 and the lens was an UG grade I picked up for $29
