Hardcore Gaming 101 Presents: The Unofficial Guide to Konami Shooters

Shooters, one of the best genres to exist and not enough mainstream love. Konami is usually seen as some of the first innovators to the scene with a pretty iconic history within it. Are they the best? Personally I have strayed from them in recent years in favor of the offerings of Cave, but these have a place in history and it's great to read about them such as my favorites being the Parodius and Twinbee series. There is some good content here, but only really for strictly shmup fans whereas the other book series can appeal to a broader audience. Hopefully they do more on other companies important to the genre as well.

I purchased this book for deeper knowledge about the tangled mess that is the Gradius and Lifeforce home video game ports, and learned far more about Konami shooters than I ever expected. The Unofficial Guide to Konami Shooters packs history and gameplay descriptions into a very solid book that boasts tons of screenshots. My only gripe? I caught approximately 3-4 typos that probably would've been caught with one more proofread.

The most in-depth guide for Konami games, anywhere. I can't recommend this enough.I've never seen so much detail in reviews before. The author goes into the most miniscule differences between platforms, which tells you that the team clearly did their homework.Fantstic read. Engaging pictures, and especailly worth it for die hard fans of classic games, shooters, or Konami as a whole.

I bought this on a whim to satiate a lifelong love of the Gradius franchise, but was amazed how much content, facts, and research went into this book. I bought the kindle copy, but will be upgrading to a physical copy immediately!If you love SHMUPs, Konami, Gradius (and more), video games - you should definitely pick this up.

Super comprehensive write-up about the history of Konami shmups, which is extensive. Written pretty informally/conversationally too, which is kind of a relief. Tons of pictures, well researched, and also a lot of opinion on the games themselves, which I appreciate. Love the book, now I want to get the others.

Awesome read for shooter fans. If you are unfamiliar with the subject it may be isolating.

El envío llego muy rápido, siendo tanto de impresión como de encuadernación de buena calidad y puede que yo sea de los pocos a los que le gusta mucho la portada :P. Los análisis van en orden cronológico, citando los avances o relaciones entre cada juego, y son bastante extensos, dando detalles desde técnicos a más desenfadados y anecdóticos, haciendo de el una lectura ligera y entretenida para los amantes de esta clase de juegos, los shooters/marcianitos/naves/de_disparos/etc... y del mundo retro del videojuego en general.

Me parece un libro estupendo, con mogollón de juegos e información al respecto. Me habría gustado que contaran algunas anécdotas en el desarrollo del juego o un poco más de los programadores, contexto, etc... Por otro lado, huele mal, no se que es, pero el tipo de tinta o papel es bastante apestosos.

lovely book, lot's of text and great layout. Highly recommended for the retro game fan, so many memories of classic shooters with conversion comparison screenshots. It's clear the author really cares about the subject matter.
