Great Equalizer - don't pay too much
These cards make chess much more fun if you have a range of skills amongst players. My husband is an excellent chess player, and I'm a relative novice, but I have beaten him several times with these cards (never came close without them). Our elementary-age kids can also play us on an even footing. We all enjoy the game - I'd doesn't feel "dumbed down," just different.Obviously, chess skills play a huge part, but the cards introduce an element of chance and unpredictability. Planning several moves ahead is rarely a viable option, and pawns end up being pretty powerful pieces.Essentially, the way the game works is that you have 5 cards in your hand at any given time, and you may ONLY move a piece that corresponds to one of those cards. Then you discard the used card and draw a new one, so you have 5 to start the next round. The pawn cards are numbered, but we find this too limiting, so we ignore the numbers and play any pawn with them.Around Christmas, I saw the price on these skyrocket. Don't pay over the odds for them. They're just a couple of little decks of cards - nothing worth exorbitant prices.Thanks for reading my review. I hope it helped! Happy gaming!
