Images of Forensic Quality
The soaring standard set by Joel Black with the digital images he has produced for his first Webley book continues with the second. These are not the classic "beauty shots" of previous great gun books. These are forensic evidence! No mark is missed or overlooked. Its value to collectors is wonderful. Full credit is due his colleagues, but without Mr. Blacks photographic and organizational skill the entire effort would be a morass of meaningless detail. It is safe to say that subject of the solid frame Webley has been brought to a full and successful conclusion.

Careful before you buy
A great book If you are a Webley collector. If not, its light on history and description. Remember, it only covers the old solid frame and the RIC models, not the break open, saddle stirrup revolvers !

WEBLEY SOLID FRAME REVOLVERS MODELS RIC, MP, AND NO 5
WEBLEY SOLID FRAME REVOLVERS MODELS PIC, MP, AND NO. 5JOEL BLACK, JOSEPH L. DAVIS, AND ROGER C. MICHAUDSCHIFFER PUBLISHING LIMITED, 2011HARDOVER, $99.00, 320 PAGES, PHOTOGRAPHS, APPENDICESThe Webley Company was established in the early 18th Century by William Davies, who made bullet molds. It was taken over 1834 by his son-in-law, Philip Webley, who began producing percussion sporting guns. The manufacture of revolvers, for which the firm became famous. At that time, the company was named P. Webley & Sons. In 1897, Webley amalgamated with W & C Scott and Sons to become The Webley And Scott Revolver And Arms Company Limited of Birmingham. Webley's revolvers became the official British sidearm in 1887 and remained in British service until 1964. However, after 1921, Webley's service revolvers were manufactured by the government-owned Royal Small Arms Factory in Enfield.Webley's service revolvers are among the most powerful top-break revolvers ever produced, firing the .455 Webley cartridge. Although the .455 caliber Webley is no longer in military service, the .38/200 Webley Mk IV variant is still in use as a police sidearm in a number of countries. With over 1,400 images and thorough text, this book provides new research on the Webley RIC, MP, and No. 5 revolvers, revealing examples never before seen in print. It includes new information on Webleys purchased by police agencies prior to the RIC models. It also covers Webley production from 1864 to 1938. Early Webley models used a wide variety of frames from different firms, giving the impression the company produced firearms in greater numbers than they did. A number of Webleys miscellaneous solid frames are also included, along with a discussion of military purchases of solid frame Webley revolvers, and displays of Webley loading tools, cartridges, cartridge boxes, the 1903 catalog, and previously unknown caliber offerings. This book is an absolute must for all dedicated firearms collectors and dealers.Lt. Colonel Robert A. Lynn, Florida GuardOrlando, Florida

fantastic photographic reference on a subject that has so much variation. Not a lot on each variation because there are so many variation, fantastic for identification of variants.

Ouvrage remarquable !
Ouvrage remarquable tant par la mine d'information qu'il procure que par la très belle qualité des illustrations. Compte tenu du créneau très étroit qui est traité, il conviendra surtout à des collectionneurs déjà avancés.
