A lengthy dvd that brought much happiness to a child. 5 STARS for the smile it brings!

When I was 11 years old Saturday morning cartoons were replaced by NEWS!! Yuck! The networks were told that they had to show educational content. Saturday day morning cartoons effectively died.I purchased the original set of these done by Fox, they looked good and worked. One thing I noticed was that "US Acres" on the old ones were called "Orson's Farm", they took them from the European masters.This new set is much much better!I am so EXCITED for this new release. PBS has finally taken an interest in preserving these shows! All the US Acres episodes say "US Acres" the quickies are all there. And they are are controversially displayed in widescreen. I usually hate when they crop shows to widescreen but in this case it really opens up the show and my kids are more interested. This was a great release.The colors are vibrant and the lines have been cleaned up, the animation looks great. Don't hesitate to buy this set and the next sets that will come after!

I remember watching this show back in the early 90's and I always enjoyed it. This is a charming Children’s program and it holds up very well. I'm happy to see it being released on DVD and now I can show my son this when he is older. There seems to be a lot of complaints with regards to the widescreen format. I have no issue with this restoration and in fact it looks better than the older 4x3 presentation. There is nothing wrong with the black bars on the sides of the TV...I grew up with this type of format so I'm used to it, but in all honesty the widescreen is not an issue for me.My only issue is with one of the episodes that has been presented in some weird "Retro TV" format so that it seems your watching the episode in a television screen image. Not sure why they did that but other than that I'm very happy with the product.

Child hood memories to the max! Excellent DVD and format is full wide screen. The picture and sound quality are good. Five hours of fun and if you grew up in the 80s.

Before I purchased this, I read several reviews that complained about it being adapted for wide screen televisions, and ashley that the sound was too quiet. I feel the sound is perfectly adequate, no different than any other DVD we have. We also don't mind that it is wide screen, so no complains there. I will definitely be purchasing the second DVD that was recently released!

The show never looked or sounded better without a doubt. The audio was cleaned up considerably, though the volume is a bit on the low side. The main issue is, as others mentioned, it's cropped for 16:9 screens. To be sure, you do get a bit more visual real estate horizontally if you compare shots to the original release 1:1, but vertically, part of the frame is lost. The intro's film was lost so it's been redone digitally (as was episode 7 so it's presented in 4:3 "retro vision" with the original source material). Also, the remastering was done in HD so it's a shame that this wasn't released on Blu ray instead.Content wise, it's highly recommended, especially for parents who may have grown up with the show and would like to introduce the show to their children. Season 1 is great and more so than the others that followed (6 more to go), it draws heavily from the comic strip's material.

This DVD works great. Looks good on the screen as well. No jumping or squiggly lines in it. Perfect for the price.

Finally someone took care and remastered this so much fun to watch 5 star.

EU has DVD Region Code 2, so this DVD is useless for me. The seller doesn't cover the return cost, which makes return pointless at this price.
