Barbara Brackman's books are always good and this one is full of true stories and quilts from the Civil War time.You need this book for your quilt history collection. To see the amazing work being done at that time andget a clearer idea of what those times were like is priceless.

Barbara Brackman, need I say more? What a great book! The info is well presented and easy to follow. The quilts are fantastic. The book is one of a kind. If you like the history behind quilting or if you have an interest in the Civil War this will be a great book for you. Barbara has given us another well written book to add to the few we want to keep.

Barbara has again written a wonderful book on the Civil War as well as patterns for projects. Her history stories and notes are well written, as usual. A great book for your library. 5 stars!!!

Very naturally expressed, making information interesting and easy to digest. There are several annoying typos throughout, so a bit of proof-reading would have helped. Brackman is clearly knowledgeable and I was interested to read her challenges to the perceived wisdom relating to the " hidden meaning" within the slave quilts. I loved the old portrait photos and the accompanying notes - I had forgotten all about delaine fabrics. The projects are interesting and give food for thought to all levels of quilting ability. Would definitely recommend. I am now wishing I had bought a hard copy, rather than the Kindle version, but at least I have something to dip into on my holidays without lugging great books around!
