I already have a 5 pound mattock but needed a something lighter for undercutting mustard weed roots. Amazon sells the Truper version of this mattock with a fiberglass handle for nearly eight dollars more so I gave up my two day prime shipping to get this one at a cheaper price. Both items are made by the same company and appear to be identical. Shipping was prompt. I ordered on Tuesday and received it on Saturday. It was shipped well-packaged via Fedex Home Delivery.The head is heavy enough to cut through a 1" diameter mustard weed root in one whack. The mattock came with a keen edge and I believe the metal is forged steel. The mattock blade is 2.75" wide and six inches long. The handle is 36" and is long enough that I needn't bend over much to chop the roots. The overall weight of the mattock with the handle is about five pounds.Mustard weed roots are tough and fibrous - my commercially rated Stihl weed cutter can't knock them down after they get well established. This 2.5 pound mattock is much easier to use than stooping over with a hedge trimmer. I could put a cutting blade on the end of the Stihl but I prefer leaving a heavy duty line on it for all the other weeds that it can handle. The cutting blade is dangerous and has a much smaller cutting radius. More importantly, a mattock cuts the weed under the flowering head which makes it much harder for the weed to regenerate. It also allows access to places a hedge trimmer or cutter blade can't reach.I'm completely satisfied with the price, quality and shipping speed for this item. There are several sellers so I should note that I purchased mine from Ozbo in PA.

This is a really well built tool. The lighter weight makes it easier to use for extended periods. It's a bit pricey, but I'd rather pay more for a tool I love, than get a deal on a tool I don't.

Perfect weight quality american tool, should last a life time

Product seems very well built and should do the job.. It lost a couple of stars because it came loosely boxed with the axe sticking out of a hole in it. The rubber part of the handle also has some big gouges in it. I did not buy it used and didn't expect it to look like it.

I purchased this to use for gold prospecting. This pick has seen several hours of use now. Seems to be very sturdy.
