The book that influenced Bobby Jones
Mackenzie gave this book to my grandfather, Bobby Jones, when it was published. It formed the basis of long conversations they had that led to the design of Augusta National. Still very readable today.

Interesting both as an historical work as well as for its relevance to current course design.
Bobby Jones called St Andrews Old Course the course he would play if he could only play one course. Mackenzie clearly shares that admiration of the Old Course. No wonder they found much in common when collaborating on Augusta National.Of course most of the material in the book on construction methods is quaintly outdated, though the notion of creating a natural appearance for course features endures. Mackenzie's list of desirable course characteristics remains relevant as does his discussion of hole design and playing strategy.Whether you are a hickory golf player like me or play the latest, hottest technology this book will entertain and intrigue.

1920 golf course design
Great book from the golden age of golf course design. From Colt the first full time golf architect to Dr A. MacKenzie his partner who came to America and design some great courses like Augusta National and Cypress Point. So if you love history and want to learn about great golf holes and what makes them great this book is for you.

fantastic book
we have a Mackenzie designed course and when you read this book you understand how he went about things and the logic to his principals. All golf course architects should study this as it makes a lot of sense.

True greatness explained
Fascinating approach to great golf course design. The thirteen principles of the author are the prism through which many great courses such as Alwoodley, Augusta and Royal Melbourne have been designed.

Good value
I came across this while looking at other golf books and thought I couldn't go wrong at £2 and so it proved, quite interesting to read how a golf architect thought 100 years ago.
