The B&D 20 volt cordless tiller - a great tool.
The B&D cordless tiller did the job. Battery ability. You need to buy a fast charger BDCAC202B 2 amp charger. with at least two of the smaller 20 volt lithium. The charger that is supplied with the tiller takes far to long to charge. The two batteries, one being charged and other working turn over for me any of my flower beds. Better yet get yourself the big battery. I have found that using that battery I can use the tiller for several hours and not run out of juice. No matter I have three batteries. How does it work. It is not overly heavy. I found the tiller works best with working on the edges of untilled ground with a upward tilting of the rotor blades and just a little push forward on the handle. You soon develop an efficient rocking kind of action. Work it as hard as you want, the slip clutch will tell you when to back off a little. You have no problem going down 6 inches. The rotor will stop with the action of a slip clutch if the work is too difficult, or if stones jam the rotor. It works best on small weeds in early spring, and does a great job of digging out quake grass. These are thrown up on the ground and can be simply raked of the soil with a bent tine fork. I used to do all this kind of work with a shovel. Now one application of the tiller, and the soil becomes nice an loose so that I can follow with a hoe to keep the soil friable. You will find a Preen kind of weed preventer applied after tilling, , or grass buster first to kill grasses in a bed, is a marvel of efficiency. This tool is so easily handled that you can manage the edges of your flower garden nicely. You can work in an around large mature flowers, for a fast buzz through on a continuous basis to keep the soil in your garden in good shape. . I am happy this is work horse tool, and a back saver. It has all the power you need. It is suited very well for flower beds, and for garden use. Go ahead buy it and try it. You have a 3 year warrantee.

Great tiller/weeder for small spaces
The media could not be loaded. I had a flower bed approximately 8’x12’ that since last season had become grown over with clover/small weeds/grass (about 2-3” in height). I also had existing plants growing so I couldn’t just rototill the whole thing. I wanted to churn up the weeds/grass and also till the soil to plant some annuals. My soil is rather thick clay. This tiller was perfect, the first pass it grabbed up a lot of the weeds/ground cover- I would have to stop and clean out the tongs every couple feet but I expected this due to the amount of weeds and clay soil. It only took me a couple seconds to pull out the weeds then go on. After I got the layer of weeds off, I was able to go slower and press deeper into the soil to churn it up and get it ready for planting. The tiller was pretty easy to maneuver around existing plants/fence. As you can see in the last photo I was able to get quite close to the daylily in the top of the frame. This is more a tiller than a weeder but it saved me hours of backbreaking work pulling out weeds and grass by hand. It also made easy work of prepping my thick wet clay soil for planting. I found it worked best to press lightly on the first pass and focus on getting up the weeds and removing them from the tongs. I then made a second pass pressing deeper and going slowly to churn up the soil for planting. I was very pleased with the maneuvering ability and I never felt like it was going to go out of control even when I got a part of the wire fence caught up (totally my fault- I just released the trigger and it shut off instantly without damaging the tiller or fence).I am very pleased with this tiller- it was perfect for my flower beds and I can see it being useful in my larger garden when I just want to plant a small area and don’t want to get the big rototiller out. It also is useful for going along the edges of gardens to get stray grass and weeds. I was surprised that the tiller seemed to excel at getting larger weeds- it pulled them up by the roots and while I had to pull them off the tongs it wasn’t a big issue. I highly recommend this for the home gardener, especially if you’re like me and a bit intimidated of using a larger gas powered rototiller but hate prepping your garden by hand. This tiller didn’t get heavy or hurt my back either and I’m not an especially strong person. I got about 30 mins of battery life off 2 hours charging (I got impatient and didn’t wait for it to fully charge) so I imagine a full charge would be plenty for an average flower garden.
