Vivaldi: Concertos

This is a great CD for a Sunday morning. Other reviewers have mentioned the Stravinsky quote that Vivaldi didn't write 600 concerto but the same concerto 600 times bheut don't dismiss these little gems, expertly and excellently played and recorded here.There are some weak ones - the Concerto for Two Trumpets sometimes borders on the comic in terms of endless repetitions of the same phrase over and over again but this is far from true for most of them.There are some real treasures here - I especially like the haunting sound of the soprano recorder, quite unlike the flute and played beautifully in this set.Highly recommended.

2CDs of a variety of Vivaldi concertos, some for more than one soloist, on different instruments and most not very well known (no Four Seasons here) at a very good price - don't miss it. The recordings are probably from the 70s when the quality of recording was extremely good, as in these CDs, and the style of playing and instruments used goes some way towards what would become the fashion of using original instruments. I can't recommend this too highly.

These are beautiful recordings on authentic instruments

Several different concertos from a prolific composer ;from a variety of soloists. Well-played and a joy to listen to. It complements my existing collection.

This is a beautiful CD. On it is a collection of some of Vivaldi' best concertos played on authentic instruments with light, transparent textures, brisk tempi and real excitement. An absolute delight!

Beautiful music. I have listened to it several times and have enjoyed it every time.
