Marco Polo

Very nicely done with a wonderful history account

I liked the story and his colorful illustrations very much! Did the author know though that there are places where whole words were not there to read and the reader had to guess what the words(s) were ? That part was not so good! It was quite an adventurous type of story with a lot of beautiful illustrations and was quite an interesting story of Marco, his dad and his uncle Ma of their adventures! I recommend this book for those whose who like to see and hear andread of explorers' lives,etc. I gave this book five stars for other than missing letters in sentences it was otherwise a very good book! I enjoyed it!I believe I had received this book awhile back free but not real sure at this time,okay. Sorry about thatDemi and anyone else who may have any questions concerning this. By Angela

The author Demi has a unique style of illustration. Her distinctive images are a fusion of classical Chinese painting and the Persian miniature style. They are detailed, dynamic and pleasing to the eye. In some of her books, she reduces the narrative detail to its core elements. With fewer words, her illustrations take up more space and come to the forefront of the book. In "Marco Polo" she takes a different approach. In this book it is the fact laden narrative that drives the book. In turn, her illustrations are not as dominant as they are in some other books. I have read a number of children's books on Marco Polo and Demi's version has been the most enjoyable because it has had the most detail. All in all, this is a really good book. Highly recommended.

I liked this as a pretty introduction to Marco Polo, but I could not make the pages larger in my Android Kindle app so I feel like I missed out not being able to see the detail in the illustrations and it was hard for me to read. I think I will stick to print versions if I order more of the author's works, which I would like to.

Delightful to look at, delightful to hold, but when I read the blurb, We had to mark it "Sold" ! a children's book - naturally... how can you go wrong? WE grew up with Grimm's fairy tales and other things we though were benign, but seeing them remade into movies and different venues, they weren't so innocent, were they? lol - These, today, were written by younger folk, who have broken the old habits we had of Snow White and Rumpelstiltskin... Can't go wrong with these books.. seriously. Another book for the older child, not yet a teen, but close...

I wanted a book for my 9 year old boy so I could read it to him on my kindle xh fire and he could learn the story of Marco Polo.When I search in the kindle store this one had great reviews and it sounded appropriate for his age, not too long or too short and had pictures. I bought it, what a big mistake. First of all it was very frustrating that the pictures and especially the writing is so UNBELIEVABLE TINY even if you have great eyesight like my son and I you can't guess what it is. We tried enlarging the pages and you can't, we did different things to make it work and nothing did. Finally by accident we double click on the writing and that made it a little bit bigger but not enough to read it without squinting your eyes to try to understand what it says.The pictures appear to be beautiful but again so extremely small you can't really appreciate them.In all it was frustrating, disappointed and definitely not a book for a kindle.

...but since I can't write a one word review I'll have to add some more to this.Beautifully illustrated; easily in the top 1% of any illustrated / historical peer I have ever held in my hands. I consider 'Marco Polo' a must have for historical reasons alone.Buy this along with the Ravensburger The Earth puzzle and your child is on his or her way to life long learning. Inspire curiosity!

This book is gorgeous but why oh why wasn't it formatted properly for Kindles!? Is there a better version out there? This issue gives me pause when considering buying any kids book for Kindle. One of the reasons I bought the Kindle was to build a great library for the young people in my life. It's really hard to tell when buying a book how it's going to look on my Kindle. I'm new to Kindle Land and I still haven't figured out how to delete samples that are beginning to clutter mine. But I have now learned it doesn't pay to not see the sample before buying. 4 stars for the book, 1 for the layout/format. Sorry Demi, I like your book.
