I've been using the Yu Yee compressed earwood mushrooms for years, and have been rather happy with them, except for the fact that you could only hydrate them in batches of what amounts to medium- sized salad bows, unless you were willing to take a saw to it. So I was very intrigued when I saw this competing product show up, where the mushrooms aren't pressed into a brick and I could literally hydrate one at a time. And, I was not disappointed! The mushrooms taste and have the same texture (which is to say, neutral taste and slightly rubbery/crunchy feel), and the only difference is that they are larger than in Yu Yee's product. They hydrate faster as well, in only ~5 minutes using lukewarm water. When you hydrate these mushrooms, you can expect at least a 10x increase in weight. So basically, you get over 50 servings of 1.5 -oz mushroom portions.

This is, hands down, one of the best dried wood ear product I have ever used. The pieces, when reconstituted, are small, tender for a dried wood ear, and have no tough parts that need to be trimmed off. It has a mild, earthy flavor and adds a nice texture to dishes. I chop it and add it to soups and stir-fries. Yummy! Thank you, Zestful Foods!

After you hydrate them (soak them in water), they are much larger than one might imagine. I added them to a clear mushroom chicken soup, they were delicious. Next time, I'll break them in half before I soak them!

I ordered these Wood Ear Mushrooms as I didn't want to go shopping at my local Asian market for just 1 item. These are delicious! They are smaller than the ones I usually get at the market, and are more tender. They didn't need to be soaked for as long either, and the texture is not as chewy. Definitely recommend these healthful and delicious mushrooms for your Asian cooking!

Adding these after carefully soaking and chopping them will give any soup, stew or sauce a wonderful mushroomy flavor. It is essential for many Vietnamese dishes, but I use it in my ordinary cooking too, particularly when I have no fresh mushrooms or when the field mushrooms I have lack flavor.A great product, delicious and cost-effrective.

Delicious product. We use them in many dishes. Rinse, rehydrate in water or seasoned broth, loosely chop, and add to meats, vegetables, soups. The wonderful texture, delicately chewy and crunchy, adds an earthy dimension to any dish. Blooms to several times its dried size for many servings; dried form has a long shelf life.

Taste good but there are sands in the product. Pretty dirty. I have to wash it many times.
