The Kerygma: In the Shantytown with the Poor

Simply shocking and amazing! Love can take anointed persons places where no one else dares going; in the author's case he was guided to live among the poorest, the rejected, i.e. theleppers of our modern days, those whom people are ashamed of, and feel disgusted with. Yet God revealed his face in this environment, the face of compassion and proximity, the face of Jesus who was crucified for our sins, so we may receive life with abundance. In our modern society we live with so much dependancy on convenience and comfort as "bougeois" closing our eyes and hearts to mercy, love and compassion. The book showed me that hell is not only where the human living conditions are so extreme in terms of poverty but also hell is where God is absent. And where God is absent, love and mercy are absent too. The testimony of the author also tought me that no matter in what hell i am, God wants me out, he wants me resurrected and blessed at no matter what price...this review represents nothing compared to the personal grace and enrichment awaiting readers individually...

For a person who last read a book in 1996, and is very stubborn and annoyed at reading books, I can tell you that this book read quite easy. In fact, I was half way through in my first sitting! The author does a very good job at describing his life in very vivid, yet easy to relate to terms (considering it was translated from the original Spanish).I must admit, I was on a plane to Phoenix when I read the rest of the book and I had to hold myself back from cracking a tear or two. The content touches the heart as the author really illustrates God's humanity and His willingness to love us all as we are.The only reason I rated this 4 star vs. 5 star is that the book ended so quickly! I wanted to hear more of the author's stories.Fantastic book and I certainly recommend it to all, especially those who would NEVER read a book in their lives - this is definitely a good place to start!

Arguello shows how he was ahead of the times in facilitating the implementation of the Second Vatican Council. He prefaces the actual "Kerygma" or "Good News" with his own personal experience, making the announcement of the Gospel here all the more powerful.

Very practical to those who can see the wisdom of God in wanting spiritual maturity, on going education in the teaching of the word of God that is always alive and refreshing. Reading the book slowly allows the mind to descend inside the bible and hear the call in the foolishness of the preaching

The book gives a great insight to the Neocatechumenal Way and it gives a word of encouragement to anyone seeking it. Kiko's experience in the "Shantytown" is captivating, as well as inspiring. The Kerygma is a good news that is completely explained throughout the entirety of the book, and it demonstrates the importance of Christianity in today's modern world.

The book goes from "being converted" (how Kiko became a New Creation) to the "converting" by means of the catechesis of the Three Angels.It ends with a new way towards New Evangelisation by means of the Missio Ad Gentes and how this works.The Neocatechumenal Way will bear much fruit in the years to come in the Catholic Church.
