A great read!

This book is Euro-centric. Her argument is that fashion originates within Europe and the U.S. to be imposed upon all the world. Rather than an even and balanced view of world fashion she disparages all other ideas of what constitutes fashion. Here in Indonesia there is both a thriving contemporary Muslim fashion industry and an Indonesian national fashion. Million of men and women wear modern and "fashionable" designs. Women enjoy equality and the agency to dress as they please. This work is not scholarly. It is a vain effort to impose colonial attitudes. If you are a "follower" then read it. If you are a leader or maverick then it is of no good use.
