History ventures back across America's most treacherous terrain in Season 2 of MOUNTAIN MEN as the men continue to heed the call of the wild. From Montana to Alaska to Maine, Tom, Rich, Eustace, Marty and Charlie each confront menacing elements, from grizzlies and sub-zero temps to time away from family and the threat of losing the lifestyle they love. Time and the environment are unforgiving, but they'll do whatever it takes to get the job done. Watch as these wildlife masterminds fearlessly brave nature's onslaught on their quest to live for a living.

A favorite!
I really enjoy this program, but although all of these men have capabilities beyond mine, I have to say that Eustace Conway of North Carolina (Turtle Island) is the only one that doesn't do stupid! Eustace has a keen eye and mind for the safety of not only himself, but of those around him. He would make a great mentor for anyone wishing to learn his way of life. On the other hand, Tom Oar left his wife a single shot .410 shotgun for protection against Grizzlies and wolves that had been coming around the homestead during his absence. If he didn't know that a .410 was totally inadequate against those wife eaters then perhaps he could use some educating. He is nearly crippled with his knee and worried about losing his way of life. Some advice to him: take some time off and get that knee repaired even if it means getting a total knee replacement, then after rehab he should have many more productive years that he otherwise will not likely have. Singer Pat Boone was onstage just two weeks after a total knee replacement. Granted, Tom's way of life is a bit more demanding, but he is strong and should recover nicely. The guy up in Maine is a disaster waiting to happen. His heart is in the right place but he is simply too green for his own good. He might do well with a little time with Eustace Conway! The Indian in Idaho has made no mistakes that I can see; he has just had some bad luck! I would like to know what he did with the remainder of his sled dog team though. The lion hunter is pretty level headed, but I would never climb up a tree after a Mountain Lion like he did. It could have cost him an eyeball or two or even his life. I'm sure he had at least a sidearm, but if he dropped it while up in the tree he would be uhh, "up a creek without a paddle"?Now Marty in Alaska is a work of art. I can see that he has skills that I never ever thought of having. My hat is off to him, but he does take unnecessary risks. When his snowmobile broke down 10 miles from his cabin, he was worried about the wolf packs and Grizzlies. He had to snowshoe the 10 miles in the dark, and he didn't have his rifle with him! Now, maybe he had a revolver that would work in that cold and maybe it was a bear killer, but seeing how Marty has carelessly operated in the past I seriously doubt it.Well now I have run through all the episodes posted so I will have to wait for more as they come. I REALLY enjoy this program, and wish there was a way to correspond with the Mountain Men, especially Eustace. I have never, ever seen a modern man who could do all the things he does from scratch. He is truly a very intelligent and resourceful individual. He is an icon of the American Pioneer spirit.

Decent show but partly canned
Not a terrible show altogether and tends to be true to its title, mostly. The producer and editor both have ADD and a template formula for trying to build tension artificially, however. A lot of the same sound bites are used repeatedly where I can tell those sounds aren't really happening. The same goes for certain video snippets. Usually the show does this when wolves are involved but can do it in many other situations as well. Regardless, I don't appreciate it when it happens. I can decide full well when a situation is tense and I don't need any help doing it. It gets really old watching that sort of thing every single episode, and I'm going to forgo a season 3 if there is one because I've finally had enough of it. The show also does a lot of jumping around from location to location. If a scene ever, EVER gets interesting, you know they're about to cut to a different mountain man - every time this will happen. That is so frustrating that they will never show a situation coming to fruition when it actually happens. If I could change two aspects of this series, I would stop cutting to different men and start letting a situation come to a whole, and I would stop all the tense music, camera shaking, and artificial sound bites that aren't really happening. Those types of things make this reality somewhat of a lie, which is a pity. Also, the seeming fact that every character's life is simply just laden with setback after setback. Everyone's luck is perpetually down. I think in the couple of seasons I've watched now, I've seen Marty trap about a trash bag worth of pelts and take 1 caribou and 1 moose. That's all the success I've seen with him. But he's had about 5 times the amount of setbacks. The same for Eustice and most of the other characters. Out of all these people, does anyone ever have a good few days or a week? I'm sure they do but I can't imagine why it isn't shown. What about the older fellow in Montana and his wife? They're like 70 or so and I never see them just chilling out sitting on the couch with a blanket talking about life handing down some insight, you know, witha good fire crackling at their feet or something. Where are those scenes because that is part of this life too I am sure. The scenery and window into frontier life is great. I did hang on for two seasons. I do enjoy watching how problems are solved and the different troubles are solved. But a bit too much is blown out of proportion, over dramatized, and thus gives a skewed view of some situations - several actually. I can see that now, so 3 stars is about all I can muster and no more seasons for me.

Great show
Another great season for one of the only reality shows that has anything to do with reality.

Truly a GREAT SHOW!
I am fascinated by the way in which these men live, the few tools they use to fix things and the waste piles that turn into a thing of real use, value and beauty. Each man has his own skills, abilities and contribution to the program. I particularly enjoy watching Tom who lives in the Yaak River Valley; such a fine trapper and leather man. He makes use of every scrap of material he can get his hands on. Tom and his wife are just a joy to watch and follow! I am painfully aware that their children want them to move to Florida, but I wonder if the move to a totally different lifestyle and area would be the very thing that creates their demise. What they need is support and a little help to be able to live their lives right where they are. Eustace is so capable of turning projects into money to help pay off his land taxes and I am in awe of how easily he is able to apply his knowledge. As I stated earlier, all of the men on this program, be it Tom, Eustace, Charlie, Marty and Rich, have their own skill sets that are fascinating to watch as they battle the elements, animals, and life living in the wild! I DO hope A & E extends this program as it is one of my favorites and my husband and I are totally hooked!
