DISNEY MASTERS VOL. 3 - PAUL MURRYWhispering Pines, old railroads, float planes, and vanishing bandits. We are of course in Paul Murry’s Wonderful World. WDC’s (Walt Disney's Comics and Stories) long continued Mickey Mouse stories were split in three times eight pages of intense excitement, mystery and adventure and we had to wait a whole week for the continuation and again one week more before we got the story ending. For years the Murry stories (together with Barks) were the best stories from WDC. One could immediately recognize that it was a Mickey Mouse story from the good artist and then followed the expectation of missing gold mines, time machines, dense mist, air boats, dragons, pirates and bearded villains.Paul Murry gave us my favorite villain, the Phantom Blot again, and we also got the amazing Super Goof stories. I remember the genius story “The Strange Case of Doctor Syclocks” from his hand. Murry also drawn one of my other favorite characters, Shamrock Bones, as well as wonderful villains such as Emil Eagle and Pegleg Pete. It was also Paul Murry who gave us the spin-off stories where various characters normally outside the Mickey Mouse universe were brought together. E.g. Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge, together with the Phantom Blot, Goofy, Mickey Mouse, Chief O’Hara and Madam Mim.All these wonderful stories have Fantagraphics started up in what hopefully ends up being a collection of Paul Murry’s Mickey Mouse stories in the Disney Masters series. In the first Paul Murry book we receive the first 7 WDC stories in chronological order, starting with "The Mysterious Hotel" from 1953 and ending with the "Railroad Mystery" from 1955. It is a nice hardback release, printed on dull paper, with an excellent facsimile coloring and with Paul Murry’s own lettering. We also receive six extra pages written by Germund Von Wowern and Joe Torcivia. It is delicious, it is high quality, made with love for the old stories and is highly recommended. The stories were written for children back in the 1950s and probably especially for boys with interest for mystery and adventure, but it can certainly also be read by nostalgic adults like myself who want to experience, enjoy and relive their childhood's amazing stories and drawings once again. The stories are often structured according to the same model and are relative simple, but with an amazing atmosphere. The great stories will entertain you even though they may not be as exciting and scary as when you were a child.Book 2 is already set in progress and contain several of the most beloved of his stories, among others: "The Marvelous Magnet", "The Vanishing Railroad" and "The Pirates of Tabasco Bay". Book 2 is expected to be published the 12th of March 2019. Fantagraphics consider the books as a kind of Hall of Fame Books, but are the books selling we may get lucky receiving all the 66 long WDC Mickey Mouse stories and maybe even the Phantom Blot and Super Goof stories too. It's probably the last chance for our generation to get a Paul Murry collection, one of the greatest Mickey Mouse artists ever. If you like Paul Murry’s mysterious and wonderful adventures then you got the chance right now. If you are waiting a while you may risk the project will be cancelled forever, which would be a disaster for such a great artist as Paul Murry. So, buy, buy, buy.The book contain wonderful stories by Carl Fallberg, drawn by Paul Murry and are made with high quality and love and even these early stories deserve a top rating, I give it five stars out of five.

A trip down Memory Lane!
This collection of Paul Murry three part stories originally published in Walt Disney's Comics and Stories (1953-1957) is a wonderful read for any Baby Boomer. When I was a youngster, these stories inspired me to learn more about the "exotic" locales featured in each. The recurring characters are classic: Pete, Mickey's always bad, but invariably outsmarted nemesis, Goofy, the stalwart but bumbling sidekick who always comes through, and, of course, Mickey the smart and brave hero of these tales. The quality of the reprinting is excellent, with sharp images and bright colors. I can't wait for the next installment to hopefully complete theses wonderful period pieces of the 1950's!
