Choosing the right bike can be tough. Road bikes are great for speed, but they can't handle even the smallest patch of gravel. Cruiser bikes are fun and casual, but they aren't designed for long and strenuous rides. Mountain bikes can handle gnarly trails but aren't fast enough for a commute. Sounds like you need a hybrid, the perfect combination of road bike speed, cruiser comfort and mountain bike versatility. The 700c Schwinn GTX has all of that and more, a true multi-sport hybrid that can handle all of your biking needs. Ride it around the neighborhood with the kids or commute to work with it in the mornings - The GTX is up for anything. It features 21-speed trigger shifters and a rear derailleur for easy, precise gear changes, a Schwinn suspension fork to smooth out the ride, and strong and light alloy rims for added stability. The front and rear mechanical disc brakes provide extra stopping power and the Schwinn multi-use tires are perfect for on-road riding or off-road adventures. On top of that, like all Schwinn bikes, the GTX comes with a limited lifetime warranty for as long as you own the bike. So what are you waiting for? Enjoy the ride on a Schwinn!

Easy to Assemble...if
I read the Amazon reviews before I purchased the Schwinn GTX 2. Most complaints and negative comments seamed to be attributed to assembly or the result of improper assembly. If you are not very handy, you would probably do better by paying the additional for the expert assembly. If you are handy and you feel confident in your basic tool skills (along with an ability and patience to follow assembly instructions...not just look at the pictures) then this project is very doable for you. Take your time assembling the bike...your safety depends on it. This bike was available at a local Big-Box store for slightly more money, but after seeing the lack of care and quality of the bikes thrown together by the store associates, I decided to do it myself. Total assembly time was approximately 45 minutes. The bike was delivered in a box that was somewhat beat-up in transit. However, the bike itself was so well packed that there were no damage issues. Styrofoam packing and wrap, zip ties, plastic hub and rim protectors and bubble wrap kept everything well protected and unscratched. The front fork is delivered in a reversed position. Pay close attention to instructional/descriptive stickers on the fork, cranks and pedals. Spin the fork around and tighten the two hex screws once it is properly aligned. The handlebars are fairly straight-forward. If the cables appear to be tangled or crossed, try a different orientation of the bar. It is useful to know that the Right side of the handlebar controls rear breaks and rear derailleur (Right = Rear) and the left side of the handlebar controls front break and front derailleur (Left = Front).I've seen comments regarding flat tires and broken chains. Fill the tires slowly, check the bead to insure the inner-tube is not pinched against the rim before you inflate to the proper psi listed on the side of the tire. Chains should last for several hundred miles with proper maintenance and care. Check for any snags or issues before your first ride. Make sure the chain is properly oiled (the factory installed chain may have a coating to protect against rust and not necessarily lubricated). Also, do some research on cross chaining...it may add years to your chain's life. The pedals need to be matched to the correct crank. Begin to thread by hand (Right pedal = clockwise and Left pedal = counter clockwise). Complete tightening with 15mm wrench. A mismatched pedal means stripped threads and pedals falling off.No tuning of this bike was needed. Gears and breaks worked as they should.I found it very helpful to watch the a Schwinn assembly video in conjunction with the instructions in the Schwinn owners manual.Comfort: I gave the Schwinn GTX 2 four stars because of the limited ability to move the seat fore and aft. The position of the seat will not allow me to get the correct fit (for knees over the crank) so I will have to find another seat. I am upgrading from a mountain bike, so, in comparison, the GTX is an improvement in comfort.Light weight: Again, I'm giving the GTX 2, five stars because it is lighter than a mountain bike. I'm not a pro competition rider so the weight of the bike (+or- 10 lbs) wasn't that important to me.Overall, the Schwinn GTX 2 is a nice bike for the price. Hope this helps.

Great experience
I should start with the fact that I'm an experienced rider having owned about 10 bikes thru the years. My first lightweight bike was a Schwinn LeTour Luxe I believe, in about 1979. The Schwinn GTX2 was boxed for shipping better than average in my experience. All the parts were present. The front rotor was already installed and runs true after assembly in the suspension fork/caliper, which was already adjusted to match. I simply tweaked the cable to obtain 1/32 clearance. Flat bar assembly was just standard install/tighten. Both rims are very close to trued, not worth adjusting further. The rear caliper/rotor required tweaking, easy. Then the surprise, both front & rear shifting was right on the money, smooth shifting out of the box. The pedals are clearly marked for R/L as well as on the cranks. I can't imagine PC putting the wrong size pedal post in there but everyone's experience is unique I guess. The seat is above average quality, I wouldn't switch it out.I should also say that the 30" measurement is accurate and does translate to "S" as advertised. The handlebar sets about 2" higher than my personal bike because of the suspension fork, making the bar feel a little taller when the seat height is way low. Personally I wouldn't like it that way. When I tested it I set the seat 6-7" and was happy with it relative to the handlebar. The seatpost is non-adjustable and the seat is angled rearward, so replacing it.Now for the dumb thing I did...I bought the wrong size, intending to surprise my wife. So I will resell & try again, only "XS" hybrids are rare on Amazon. How 'bout it Amazon, do better on selection maybe?

Great Bike for the Money
Item: GTX EliteMe: Male, 5'5" and 150 pounds, 30 years oldThis bike is pretty great for the price point. Without any previous bike assembly experience, it took me about an hour to unbox and put together, just make sure you have a set of Allen wrenches ready. The most important thing when putting it together is to make sure you inflate the tires to the proper psi. I thought I could use a small hand pump, and it totally made the first few rides a lot more difficult than they should have been by not inflating them to the correct psi (about 70 for a hybrid bike like this one). I ended up buying the Schwinn Air Center Plus and found out that on my first few rides the tires were under 40 psi, once I got them up to 70 the bike rides a lot faster, smoother, and with less effort on my part. The seat isn't ultra comfortable, but it works just fine so I'm probably not going to change it. For my size the 18inch frame is perfect, if you're under 5'3 it might be a little big for you. So far I've put about 50 miles on it, riding it to and from work which is 8 miles away from my house and takes 30-35 minutes. So far this bike has been great, and makes the daily commute to work a lot more fun.

I have ridden my friend's $750 Scott hybrid 700c and loved it, but I didn't have that type of cash laying around. I searched for days and days for a hybrid with front shocks, 21 speed, and disc breaks for less than $400. I almost gave up until I came across this guy! Fantastic bike, others have griped about the wheel paint, I think it's fine. The seat is very comfortable, front shocks eliminate the bumps well, its gears shift smooth and the tires are a perfect balance between road and dirt. My ONLY TWO ISSUES were during assembly: 1. One of the factory handlebar clamp allen wrench bolts was very hard to loosen/tighten like is was misthreaded. 2. Pay very CLOSE attention to the back break caliper, mine from the factory flexed (while the level was pulled) the break disc over to one side by like a 1/2", thats a huge flex on the disc! I adjusted the caliper over with a metric allen wrench so that it perfectly applies pressure to the disk. I will say the back break isn't as forceful as other bikes I've ridden, but the front will toss you @55 over tin cup if your not careful ;-) Hope this helps guys!! BUY IT!!!

Overall great bike, will need some work
It was easy to assemble, yes, but the original assembly was performed by monkeys. Bearings in bottom bracket could not handle hard cranking and had to be refitted, front and rear shifters had to be professionally tuned, therefore 3 stars
