Q: does this stuff really work? I'm almost afraid to use with all the mixed reviews

For me it works well. It is expensive but since I started using it every 2-3 weeks at about 1/2 a capful at a time along with a whole capful of Cycle and a tiny dose of powdered buffer powder I have never had the problems I did before. I have a 29-gallon tank with two very large Freshwater Clown Loaches and one tiny Black Tetra. The large fish make a lot of waste like other large fish. A few days after using the chemicals I have to use the scraper and once in a while I have to change the old filter sponges in my 70-gallon filters (2 of them). I really do depend on this stuff.

Q: Have 55gal community tank. Did partial H2o change & added the waste control. Nitrite level went went way up, nitrate also was up. Any idea why?

I assume that the bacteria from Waste Control started working on the waste leftovers in your tank? That produces the nitrite/nitrate. Give it some time to do the job, the levels should eventually go down. Or try using Nutrafin Cycle together with Waste Control - it contains a different type of bacteria that will take care of your nitrite.

Q: Nutrafin used to make a turtle cleaner which worked great. Now it is no longer around, do you think the fish waste control will work the same?

Before I would use it for turtles I would do some serious research. I used it for my 115 gallon aquarium but it may not be safe to use in another environment for a completely different animal. Good luck but proceed with extreme caution!
