I like it ...
I put off buying this for about a year because of the price ... $39 seemed expensive for a fuzzy sock. However, I began doing more interviews in the field for short videos related to a non-profit I volunteer for. The wind noise with my Cannon 70D was a real issue ... people thought it was thunder when they heard the audio - and where I live wind is almost always a factor. I needed to do something. Searching through the internet for solutions kept bringing me back to this product. So I finally bit the bullet and bought this 'deadcat'. It works. And now I wish I had bought it a while back. Small breezes that used to sound like crackling thunder are no longer even heard. Strong, hat-holding, wind sounds like ... wind, and voices can still be clearly heard above the background wind noise.Cons ... I did have to trim back some of the dead cat hair as it would hang down over some of my lenses, especially on a windy day, but, really, that's a non-issue. And the dog thought it was a toy for him when it arrived ... that almost ended badly for the dead cat and the microphone inside it when I left it on my desktop. Lesson learned there.Bottom line ... it fits my Rode boom mike with room to spare. It works. It's worth the price. Hope this helps.

Necessary Accessory
I shoot DSLR video/cinema; commercials, wedding trailers, creative shorts, etc.Every DSLR has a dedicated mic (as SLR audio is notoriously bad, at least on the earlier models), which we use the Rode VideoMic Directional Video Condenser Microphone w/Mount to fix, and for every one of those we also use this product, the Deadcat Muff windshield. If you are shooting outside and have the VideoMic but not this, you're just wasting time and money.Yes, with this attached you will get strange looks. Kids like looking at the dead squirrel (or Dead Cat) that is attached to your SLR. The usual quip is, "Whoa, what died on your camera?"Also, and I am a big proponent of this, if you are looking to increase the perception of value of the product you offer - like video making/recording service - then yes, this is an accessory to have. Anyone can have a mic, not everyone carries a giant, fuzzy, dead animal-looking thing that covers your mic. :)Price: 2.5 starsFunctionality: 4.5 (it doesn't cover the entire Rode VideoMic, so watch for heavy wind blowing from behind)Total: 4 starsCheers!

Also like a dead cat, it sheds.
Functionally, the product does a fairly good job of reducing (not blocking out entirely) wind noise during shooting. I put it over my video mic, and it has a cool fuzzy look as well. The fur does not show up on footage (unlike other people who mentioned that "complaint" in their review), because I took the stock hotshoe mount out of the mic and put a taller one in, so the unit stands an inch or two above the camera. The one problem I have with this, and the reason for the 4 star rating, is that this thing SHEDS, the little hairs are everywhere inside my camera bag and something tells me they are going to somehow find their way into the sensors, mirror boxes, and interior parts of my 2 cameras (a 5d mark II and a T2i) and mess things up. It would be 10x more horrifying if they somehow got into my lenses...

Not for VideoMic NTG
Do not buy this for the VideoMic NTG like I did. It won’t fit.

and it doesn't muffle sound so the quality of the video is still good. CON
I bought this for a skit i did for youtube and it works. I was recording outside on a windy day and you couldn't really hear the wind, and it doesn't muffle sound so the quality of the video is still good.CON:The only bad thing was that the wind was blowing the "fur" down and you can just barely see it at the top of the video. If you were making a more professional video that fur in the video could be a problem. Overall i recommend it.

Expensive But Works - Mostly
Didn’t expect a total muffling of wind buffeting noise, but please with the improvement over what the foam Røde mic provided. This dead cat is very well made, but the price seems a bit high.

Deadcat is decent
I've only had this for a few weeks, and used it on decently windy days. I find with this on, the quality is much better with it off, so I just keep it on the whole time. I was shocked at how simple it was, it came in a small bag, really tight knit and velcros over the videomic. Simple yet useful. The hair falls off a lot though, but is fun to annoy people with. Not much to say, but it's a great product for the microphone... but doesn't do the job of "professional" work
