Great value!
Provides tons of shade and looks great. However, as soon as the wind kicks up, the umbrella starts whipping around...

Worth the money
So far the umbrella is holding up well. We have had a lot of rain since we purchased it and the rain just runs right off just like it's supposed to. Provides adequate shade and protection from the rain for our dogs.

Waste of money
First the pin popped from the metal hinge. We put it back in no problem. Then a couple days later the metal actually snapped. What a waste of money. I should get a refund!!

Perfect addition to my patio, BUT ...
This umbrella fits perfectly with all outside decor and it is easy to maneuver, however, a breeze will tuple it over even when you secure the bottom. Not worth the effort.

Badly engineered
*This product was offered to me in exchange for an unbiased review.* Before I ordered this product, I took measurements to make sure it would fit inside our pool cage. The height of the cage in the area where we intended to use this umbrella is 8.5' high. The top of the umbrella hits the screen. This umbrella stands at least 8.75 feet high, and pushes into our screening on the cage. The measurements given on the product info page states it stands at 6.75 feet when assembled. HUGE disappointment right there, but we could have made it work. The actual umbrella itself is a nice, heavy canvas-like material, which I could see lasting quite a few years. But the stand, pole, and operating mechanisms are another story. Ours arrived with the plastic piece that sits on top of the umbrella with a section broken. Nothing that would affect the use, but still, not something I like to see on a brand new item. This might have occurred during shipping, but this was EXTREMELY well packed, and I don't think that was the case. The stand... the cross braces are extremely unpractical. In the last pic, you can see that the small brace is actually crooked, it lifts off the patio by a good 1/2 inch. And the entire thing, once assembled, is wiggly, and to be honest... it's just plain dangerous. This thing tips with barely a breath of a breeze while in use with NO slant whatsoever. The least breeze will send this over, and the wind then grabs the umbrella and sends it sailing off. The base has pre-drilled holes so you can anchor the base... but the holes for anchoring are almost an inch off the surface and drilling into my concrete pool deck is NOT something I would do for an umbrella. Sand bags on the 4 legs are also not an option, it would look ridiculous! The crank handle is at least 6 feet off the ground, so opening and closing it is actually a chore, though it is nicely marked with which way to crank to open and close the umbrella. Once fully assembled and opened, the very limited installation instructions show the actual edge of the umbrella to be quite a ways from the pole. In actual use, the umbrella hits the pole and folds on itself in order to open fully, as the pics show. We also remeasured our cage as it hits the top, to make sure I hadn't messed up the measurements... I didn't, this simply stands about 2 feet higher than described. We also didn't received the wrench supposedly included for assembling the base, we had to use our own. My husband and I both used to work in large home improvement stores, and have put tons of outdoor umbrellas together for floor samples, so we do know how to do it and how these things are suppose to work. In a nut shell, this umbrella was poorly designed and engineered, the listed assembled dimensions are wrong, it's unstable, and unsafe. I would not recommend this item to anyone.

Inferior Crank Mechanism
I was offered this Hermo Cantilever Patio Hanging Umbrella in exchange for an unbiased review. I was looking at similar umbrellas at a local store and thinking how great it would be sitting on my deck. So you can imagine my excitement when I came across this umbrella. The box is rather large; not real heavy though. I am saying this because your neighbors and others will see it on your porch. When I opened the box, the umbrella frame was coated with dust, almost like it was sitting in a warehouse for years. The umbrella itself was wrapped in a plastic bag. Thank goodness for that. Further inspection revealed that the cross pieces for the base were bent and did not sit flat. A bit of bending with some pliers and I had them almost straight. Now the instructions are one page - 4 diagrams. One side is printed in English and one side in Spanish. There is no contact, warranty or parts information. I thought the instructions were adequate. When I first put it up in my driveway, the breeze caught the umbrella and almost slammed it into my car. I pulled and held on for all I could. As soon as the wind died, I cranked it back down. I took the mast apart in the middle and put it on the deck. I tried putting it up once again. The umbrella is attached to the end of the rope. The rope comes out of the end of the top through a nipple. Where the umbrella is attached is cup shaped with the idea, the cup is to go over the nipple. Every time I raised the umbrella, mine did not slide onto the nipple and go up. It catches and I have to jostle it back and forth to get it to pop onto the nipple the way it was intended. Not having used one of these before, I can't say whether this is normal; whether I did something wrong; whether I just got a lemon? I don't really know. I know mine will not slide onto the nipple unless i move it around. It is very top heavy. The base it an offset X pattern. If you look at various cantilever umbrellas, most are straight X-shaped whereas the HERMO is a bit offset with the longest leg below the umbrella. In theory, it seems like a good design. The base has a hole in each leg where you can bolt it down to your deck. You will need to come up with something to stabilize it. Either bolt it directly to your deck with lag bolts, purchase the umbrella weight set sold here, buy a couple sandbags, or make up a frame from 4" x 4" or 6" x 6" wood. You will need to do something because when it is opened and breezy (I did not say windy), it will be blown over or away. I think if you could strap the umbrella on your back, you could take flight.Perhaps the biggest con is the crank assembly. It is made with an all plastic body and a cast handle. When you turn it open it has a ratcheting mechanism that keeps it to from going backward, unless you turn it back. I used mine maybe 10 times and the crank mechanism was already hard to use (not smooth like it initially was). This may be due to cranking it to get the umbrella cup to go over the nipple, I don't know. I do know that I do not trust the crank mechanism to last. It is just that difficult to turn already. This is the only cantilever umbrella I have used. I can't say if they all have plastic crank assemblies or not. If the crank jams or breaks, what good is the umbrella? After using it a few more times over the weekend the bolt inside the crank sheared off. Now the crank mechanism is useless and there is no contact information to be found for parts. In conclusion, I cannot recommend the HERMO 10ft Offset Cantilever Hanging Umbrella. As for me, I will be going back to our old center table umbrella. I hope this review helps others with their decision. Thanks!
