hoofs
I really enjoyed reading this as it is an honest look at the necessity of having to shoe a horse or not as in a lot of cases but people who read this book must understand that different places have different types of ground and different breeds of horses have different types of needs when it comes to actually being able to leave a horse without shoes on so I think people need to take that into account and also talk to a good blacksmith about their animals because a good blacksmith will give you good honest advice as they would be more concerned about your animal than making money.

Good information
Easy read with good information and useful links to learn more beyond the information here. I recommend this book to anyone just starting their horses to go barefoot.

Why not Barefoot?
I believe this book is right on the money. If a horses feet are trimmed correctly and it receives proper exercise they will be able to remain barefoot and nurture a healthy foot.

Going bare
Love Joe's books. Well written explanations. Only question- how did the illogical shoes on front, barefoot behind get so established. We've been barefoot believers for years. Highly recommend this book for people thinking about going bare.

So True
This book will likely make you never want to shoe your horses again. You know the saying: "No hoof, no horse" and this is the case with many shod horses whose circulation is practically nil with shoes on. Excellent read.

Barefoot horses
Our horses have always gone barefoot and we are glad more people are looking into it for their horses. Most horses do not need shoes, like people believe. You don't see the wild horses going shoe shopping. Our domestic horses do need good trims since they do not walk on ruff and rocky ground like their forefathers to keep their feet in good shape and healthy.

Are you curious, but you don't want all the details?
This is a short story, Mr. Camp gives you his opinions and his own story of how "barefoot" affects his horses and himself. It is a great easy to read introduction into a very serious subject; "Barefoot or shod?" I will keep it on hand for my students that "don't want THAT MUCH information". I am sure it will inspire them to WANT to learn more on the subject. Yes Virginia there is a difference between just pulling the shoes and having a real "Natural Barefoot Hoof" This is a must for every horse library.

Horse Care & Management
This was such a "lightbulb moment" book! I read it five years after we moved country's with all my horses. We took the shoes off for the journey and not got round to putting them back on!EVERYONE commented on how very well all the horses looked --especially Gremlin's feet --who had had nightmare hooves all his life no matter what we did!I read "Barefoot" as a matter of course whilst reading all the other "Soul of a Horse" series and suddenly realised WHY my horses all looked so good. This is yet another book by Joe Camp where everything is backed by scientific fact and turns horse keeping on its tail.I have the proof and I think everyone who is even remotely dealing with horses should read all his books but especially this one.I have told or given all my friends this book and cannot wait for his next revelation! The interesting thing is that now I have both time and money for my passion this "new" way has actually proved cheaper and far easier and time consuming. The books are now mere nuggets of information so can be read in a few hours!

Sehr informativ

Should of known this years ago!
has made me rethink hoof care. Thermal images explain a lot about blood flow that I hadn't considered before. Having always been told that warm feet meant the horse would be sore or unsound. Now my horses are barefoot, one with hoof boots, they were a little 'footie' for the transition period, about 2 weeks while they got used to weight bearing on other parts of the hoof. The hoof quality has improved, their feet are a better shape, sole and frog are much tougher. The horse wearing Trek hoof boots is a chestnut TB with 2 white socks and hooves, these needed a little help as seem more prone to cracking and flaking than his 2 black feet. Horses all very comfortable barefoot and a huge saving over the year on shoeing costs!
