Great for tips on the walk.
I walked Camino early this year with my husband and found the information in this book easy to help with getting there and after the walk. It helped with budget and ideas of clothes and weight. Most of all I found out that at 70 years of age I did not need to carry a heavy pack.

This book might be useful for complete novices
I just read this book cover to cover, yet am no closer to deciding what route to take or what time of year to go. The author weirdly seems to assume I'm intimately familiar with the geography (not a single map in the whole book, but town names are thrown around as though they are supposed to mean something to me) yet at the same time, assumes I've never packed or worn a pack, gone on a hike, stayed in a hostel, or seen a single word of Spanish before. There are THREE PAGES devoted to a discussion of blisters, and 2-11 lines discussing each of the routes. Should I go in March or should I go in May? Three sentence fragments discuss the entirety of the spring as one single time frame. This book might be useful for complete novices, but if you've ever done a hut-to-hut hike or are a frequent backpacker, there is nothing in here you don't know.

Great stuff...needs more stars...!!
I thought this book was terrific...yer man points out practicalities, necessities, and options, and what works for him and why. A real simple, direct style, with a few laffs, and chockablock with statistical and historical background information that's bound to add to the depth of one's Camino experience. I'm off on the Way in mid-Sept. with one of my best mates ((44 yrs.) who is a stroke survivor, and I just sent him a copy of this little gem to get him amped, just as I am.

The experience will be the true test
The ultimate test of a book like this is how it prepares you for this journey. In reading it, I can't think of anything he left out that I would be concerned about. I believe it is very thorough and complete, but the true test will come when we make this trip in 2017. I will happily return to this review and update it if needed after the trip, but I have very little doubt that I will need to.

A must-read for Camino Pilgrims!
As one of those people who research everything before going there or making a purchase, this book is indispensible to Camino pilgrims. This guide is a not a step-by-step what-to-expect guide like the Brierley book (also indispensible, but for the step-by-step feature), but gives clear, practical advice on what to bring, weather, Camino etiquette, statistics, etc. The section on Camino and Spanish history is particularly fascinating because knowing how it evolved gives a better understanding on why it is there and how to make the experience the best for you. As someone whose Spanish is limited to what I've heard on TV - hola, adios, hast luego - this book also gives practical phrases in Spanish and Basque, as well as menu tips on different parts of the Camino.I encourage everyone planning on walking "The Way" to read this book before you go!

Exhaustive, helpful advice
The author has walked the Camino de Santiago numerous times. Consequently he knows it, and knows what it's helpful for others to know in advance. He offers advice on physical preparation and logistics about getting to and walking on the Camino, as well as useful equipment. You really getba good preview of what to expect.

This was a good book to read and get early preparation to walk ...
This was a good book to read and get early preparation to walk the Camino. It gave you piratical information you can use along the way. I felt like it gave me a good feel for what to expect along the Camino. However, it isn't a full guide. I was hoping for a little more info that was more along those lines. Additionally, I believe another reviewer noted this, but there was a bit of grammatical errors throughout the book.

Lots of information and advice, however it would have been much better and understandable if the book had contained some rudimentary maps and distance details. Various starting points that you could take, but the book seems to be aimed at those that intend to do the whole walk, perhaps there is room for a shorter less detailed book here.

Great if you want to go on the walk/Pilgrimage or just thinking about it.
This seems like a good book if you are contemplating doing the walk, I have bought it to see where my relations are going and what they need. I am more of an armchair tourist and walker than a physical one, but I might try and do a short walk every few months rather than the long haul, it seems it all counts.
