These spindle rods are designed to be used with pressure mounted gates only . Pressure mounted gates are installed by tightening the spindle rods against the surrounding walls and objects, creating tension that holds the gate securely in place. By contrast, hardware mounted gates are installed by screwing manufacturer-provided hardware into the walls, then connecting the gate. Measuring Your Gate If you are not sure which size will fit your pressure mounted gate, you can measure the holes that the spindle rods go into to determine the correct size yourself. An M8 screw's true diameter will measure slightly less than 8mm, so will fit nicely into an 8-9mm hole. An M10 screw's true diameter will measure slightly less than 10mm, and will fit nicely into a 10mm hole. Use In Combination With Baby Gate Guru Extra Long Spindle Rods To install your gate at the bottom of your stairs, use 1-2 Baby Gate Guru Banister Y-Spindle Rods against your stair banisters, depending on the design of your staircase, and normal spindle rods for the remaining flat surface contact points. If you need replacement normal spindle rods or your existing spindle rods will not reach, use Baby Gate Guru Extra Long Spindle Rods (sold separately) to help extend the maximum width of your gate. Note: Pressure mounted gates are not suitable for use at top of staircases . Only certified hardware-mounted gates should be used in that location. Use a maximum of 2 banister adapters for each installation, to ensure a strong fit. Use standard spindle rods for connections on remaining flat surfaces. Always follow your gate manufacturer’s installation instructions and ensure a strong fit before use. 2 Packs Each set comes with 2 banister spindle rods. Depending on your staircase design, it's possible you'll only need 1. However, if your staircase has round banisters on both sides, or both the top and bottom of a single side, you will need both Y-spindles. Extra Length Staircase openings are wide and can often be difficult to span. Having extra long banister spindle rods gives you more play, making it possible to install your gate where you previously couldn't or, in any case, making for an easier, more secure installation. Rubbery Padded Surface A rubbery padded end piece wraps all the way around the metal, an important factor designed to prevent damage to wooden banisters. The padded end pieces also have textured dots to help prevent slipping and create a secure grip against many types of surfaces. The ones provided with the gate were for flat surfaces only. These just replaced the one provided with the gate.
